Does Fox News appear on White House “enemy list”?

News organizations were never intended to be the focus of “the news” per se, but that's what is happening in the US as the White House seems to have lost its patience with a popular news channel.

Being myself, I can't ever be too sure I have all the details or am going to state what I'm thinking in the exact way for another, but I'll try. It seems that our news is controlled by corporations, which have various agendas. They are fighting such things as President Obama's health care reform to the death without realizing why the atmosphere is beginning to switch and how it's going to screw them over in the end, and I still think it was a tease. They use celebrities such as Beck to distort information and work off mass paranoia that they feed us constantly. Fox is just in the light right now, but it is certainly not the only one that spreads nonsense. I fall victim to it as well. Secretly, I was terrified of FEMA camps and put that idea with socialism and health care reform for almost a month. What can I do to stop it (which is really bad sometimes because being a speck of dust against magnetars stinks, but I'm always desperate and there's always some massive threat to conquer, and it's all my fault)? Get angry, care. Nope, not this time. I googled Sweden and Canada and sighed at the fact that I'd been trapped again in their laughing pit.

The US has 2 parties, a center-right party, and a crazy party. The latter, of course, is the party of Bush, the Republicans. Of course every party has some nuts in it; but right-wing pundits, now primarily featured on and promoted by Fox, have basically radicalized the Republican base to the extent that the Republican base in turn has ensured that realists make up only a small minority of federally elected Republicans. This base makes up only a small percentage of the country, but since they have a dominant influence over Republican primaries they are able to ensure that most elected Republicans share their dysfunctional extremism and absolutism. The left-wing has pundits too, but they are on average less radical/absolutist and less influential. "Although the news reporting itself tends to be fair and balanced," Fox new's main reporting is on average far from fair and balanced. This is true of almost all newspapers. Every newspaper has a certain culture, a certain set of cultural assumptions which it grants as uncontroversial enough for it to air without alienating too many people in its target audience. Fox is obviously aiming for a republican audience in its main reporting. In contrast, CNN's target audience is the broader American public, and therefore it is less biased because it is afraid to offend people of either party. But CNN is watched less than fox is though it has more viewers because its viewers don't spend as much time watching it. Fox's business model is to focus on a smaller but more enthusiastic audience. To be fair, I think that the fact that the extent of Fox's corruption has been exaggerated for many years is in part to blame. Bit by bit these exaggerations have become self-fulfilling. As fewer and fewer non-Republicans watched Fox, owing to its reputation, it came to cater to mostly to Republicans.

As regards allegations of the Obama administration making an enemies list, all I have seen come from the administration is a light pronouncement of the obvious. Claims of censure are inane in this case as nobody has suggested Fox be censured. All the administration did was say it was a right-wing new organization, which it is.

People are more willing to give their opinion than to read. Here is the truth: White House Communications Director Anita Dunn recently told the NEW YORK TIMES that the Administration is ''going to treat them [Fox News] the way we would treat an opponent. As they [Fox News] are undertaking a war against Barack Obama and the White House, we don't need to pretend that this is the way that legitimate news organizations behave.'' Fox news is not Republican. They show only 2 commentary shows that are conservative :Hannity and Beck. This makes liberals say Fox is Republican. Since the 70's, the media will not show conservative opinions on TV until Fox came along. So, liberals scream Republican bias when only 2 shows are on TV. Democrats (a.k.a. liberals or socialists) oppose anyone with a different viewpoint and call them racists and Republican. Beck is an independent. Hannity is a Republican. They admit that. They are commentary shows. They are not the news. The news is reported fairly well during the day. Fox was the ONLY NETWORK that allowed Amanda from Ossetia to speak and thank the Russian troops during Georgia's invasion. Shepherd Smith cut them short but no other network allowed them to speak the truth. However, Fox news failed to report the truth about Georgia and instead showed Russia as the bad guy. It's sad the White House is so immature in blaming Fox instead of focusing on other issues like the war, economy, unemployment, high crime, drug war, child molesters etc.. Bush never blamed the media when they called him an evil dictator or madman. He just focused on what he said he would do. America was never attacked again after 911. He protected us from militant Muslims who hate Israel. They hate America for helping Israel. Obama, ignores his generals, unemployment and doctors who marched on Washington to oppose his health care plan. Obama chooses to spend trillions more than Bush ever did. Obama has no success in a Democrat majority Congress.

When I was in the United States, I though Fox 'News' was political satire. I didn't realise that it was actually a propaganda channel for Right Wing extremists. Scary.

Most of the rest of the large news organizations are in lockstep with the democrats. With a democrat in charge those news organizations will not be called out. General Electric which owns NBC and MSNBC has everything to gain financially due to cap and trade policy and global warming mania. They promoted Obama, they will get the contracts and provide the goods. I like Fox, but they made a big mistake. Last year they were more balanced in their covereage, but as the rest of the media moved more left, they moved more right. I cite as evidence, the addition of Glenn Beck's show and the removal of the Colmes from Hannity and Colmes. It's now just Hannity. (Colmes is a liberal democrat). Fox probably thought that to center the debate....if all the other channels are moving more left....they should move more right, and there would be more profit in it. It was a strategic error. They should have stayed more balanced. However, we all need to remember, no matter which side of the aisle we are on that all news media and reporters have biases. We should read multiple sources for important stories: left and right coverage, national and international coverage, etc. We all need to listen a bit more, especially when we disagree.

I forgot to add that it is also a stragic error for Obama and the Obama administration to attack Fox News. It makes it look like they are trying to control the media and that they are overly concerned about someone who disagrees with them. It would be better to ignore them and not comment on it, after all Obama has plenty of mouth pieces in NBC, MSNBC and CNN. There is simply no reason to engage in a skirmish with one TV channel. It makes Obama look weak. I don't think Obama is trying to control the media. Rather, I think he is angered by and cannot tolerate criticism and this is a child-like reaction. Time will tell if I am right and this is a critical error made both by Fox and Obama.

As has been stated by the Pew Reserch Group, FNC does have the most diverst group (Conservative, Liberal, Independent) watching them on a day by day basis than CNN America & MSNBC. Just this week MSNBC hosts stated right on the air they get e-mails directly from the White House. Also their Prime Time Opinion Hosts (Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow) have had off the record meetings with the President. To be fair, the Bush White House did have 'Radio Row'. FNC Primetime shows (O'Reilly, Hannity, Van Susteren) have guests on with different points of view. MSNBC Primetime hosts with the exception of Chris Mattews do not. CNN America and CNN International are different so I don't think it's fair to comment there. But! FNC does get more viewers than CNN-A, MSNBC, Headline News, combined, most nights. Source: tvbythenumbers.com Also this past week, the White House did try to exclude FNC (censorship anyone?) from the 'Press Pool', to which the rest of the Media to their credit, did cry "Foul!" All I can say is, go to the Websites of MSNBC & FNC. Watch their Videos, read their reporting. Decide for you're-self who is the tool of what party. BTW: Anyone who 'watched' Glenn Beck's reporting on the FEMA Camps watched as Mr. Beck debunked them. And Glenn has had a cute little puppy (Grey Lady) on for his 'Media Watchdog/Lapdog segments. I am an independent, I watch and read as much as I can throughout any givin' day. And if I had the chance to ask the President one question it would be this. With all the problems facing America today (economy, conflict in Afganistan, middle east, health care, others) and with all the positive press that you get on a daily basis from the Media as a whole. Why do you let one little cable news channel bother you? I think you folks in Russia can give me a pretty good answer. Thanks 'RT'. You folks do a great job.

Every other form of media in the United States is extremely liberal and biased. Fox News is a conservative news channel and one which I follow whenever I am in the United States. When President Bush was in office every other media channel bashed him relentlessly. The Obama administration needs to get a grip and not bully around a conservative news station. Sure there are a couple of extremists on Fox news that have their own shows but for the most part I believe that Fox news gives it's audience a fair view of what is going on. If Americans don't like it then don't watch it. Thankfully news in America isn't censored nor run by the government. Take this as first hand information from an American citizen living in Russia.

FOX is controlled just like the other major media company's. All owned by just a few very powerful corporations. They play off against each other to keep the public infighting over petty left and right politics, like sports teams. The Republicans and Democrats work for the same people, those people own ALL major media here. While the citizens are busy with left/right politics, the US is quietly being dismantled peace by peace. A one world dictatorship is the goal, but first the united states has to be destroyed from within. I hope the rest of the world is paying attention, because your next.

@Alex, I don't think they are working on a one world government or trying to destroy the United States because that would off-set everyone and cause mass uprisings around the world and shake all political structures with massive wars. We benefit from being apart. They're going to have to change our values to match no longer being wealthy. If they don't reform, we'll collapse. If we collapse, things will get strict for the poor and free for the wealthy. The wealthy are already absorbing what's left of the wealth, destroying the middle class and destablizing us. Luckily, their money will become less meaningful, so they won't be able to trap and exploit people to keep them stable. We'll see some demons from the line, "you have a false sense of entitlement." Because their needs aren't being met, they'll become demonic, overly competitive and cut-throat with morals that create angry, bitter people with antisocial tendencies. I've already experienced some of this where people use race or their life stories (while not allowing me to match my own - to relate) or some other form of false merit. I'm sure, as usual, that I'll absorb massive amounts of fault, shame and be humbled into more zombie-like slave behavior where I'll be kicked for "playing the victim" or being overly submissive (strange that this is a sin), come to the realizations of no worth, be a slave to other agendas where I'll find myself "hating people of ugly colors" and a bunch of other things I wouldn't have done, being a liar so that nothing anyone else does to me matters, go through a few more ego-deaths, start a cult by feeding the other demons hope in their desperation and end humanity. The world will be one: me.

You all are fools if you believe in any of this democrat, republican enemies list, and so on. It is all a show. Ask yourself why would Rupert Murdoch support Hillery Clinton all the time when she is a democrat and his news channel is radical Republican? ITS A SHOW! Get over it, you live in a Polyarchy. The whole corporate TV republican, democrat just plays people off against each other while life long congressmen, various other politicians, Wall Street, and the Fed laugh at you all while they make the money. @Carolina, you are a fool if you believe the government doesn't control media outlets in the United States. Pentagon admits to using news for propaganda. Embedded journalists in army are controlled by the government or they don't get to report. The government's talking points are all followed perfectly. It is a shame being outside of your own country hasn't opened your eyes to it. Usually being in the 3rd perspective helps.

What planet is Artyom on? Fox News supported Hillary Clinton (spelled with an a) for the simple reason that she was NOT a Socialist like Obama. She was the lesser of two evils! We now have a president that makes more appearances on late night comedy shows then any other in history. While he is looking for cameras to jump in front of our unemployment rates skyrockets and our military needs help in Afghanistan. The Nobel Peace Prize was a JOKE! We are all laughing!!

Easy Solution. Write into law, that all news reported has to be factual. Not distorted and personalised. "A lie of ommission is still a lie" Report the news only, like reporters are meant to do, not trying to persuade people to their point of view. I think Amy Goodman (From Democracy Now) does a reasonable job. Rev12

The news monopolies of billionaires needs to be broked up because Americans cannot trust the truthfulness of anything that is reported in the major news networks. This is very dangerous because someone like Hitler could be glorified by all the major news agencies and turn the country into a dictatorship.Politicians should have no sway over the news reporting or contedt. A free press means just that, not a government controlled press. Americans should demand a free press and factual reporting. Most of the wars get started when the news networks are afraid to report the truth or challenge the government's motives and justifications for going to war. Reporters should not be afraid of losing their jobs for reporting the truth. America must steer clear of dictatoeial powers of those in office. America's leaders are elected to serve the people. This includes the U. S. president. He works for the people and does not have dictatorial powers.

@Arytom, being out of the United States has only showed me how ultra liberal and biased the news media is around the world. Especially in European countries! Perhaps the government controls the media in certain countries but why would the current liberal socialist minded government want to control a conservative news station like Fox in America? You don't make sense. I have a friend who is an embedded journalist in Afghanistan right now and he would beg to differ with your comments!!! Unlike the country you are from........we do have certain liberties and freedoms with our speech!!
