President Dmitry Medvedev is on a 3-day trip to Paris, where he will meet with his counterpart, Nicolas Sarkozy, to discuss pressing security issues, including Iran and European defense.
France is a good business partner for Russia. You just have to accept the French way of thinking and doing things. France and Russia also have to delicately deal with Islam and it's rising influence. France and Russia are also cultural and economic nations, centres of music, literature and finance. Last, the French and Russian Presidents, and P.M. Putin are my favourite world leaders. President Obama is barely on my list!
President Dmitry Medvedev and President Nicolas Sarkozy presented themselves as mature leaders of their respective countries during their press conference in Paris today. Their comments were clear and concise, and left no doubt that they are carrying the torch of European leadership. The message that came across to me quite clearly is that their vision of leadership is devoid of the swagger, mocking, threats, and military attacks which characterized the Bush administration. Obama has yet to shake off the influence of the Bush administration before he can be in the league with Medvedev and Sarkozy. The future of Europe is in good hands.
It was the Bush administration of the USA that seemed keen to get involved in Eastern Europe - other NATO members were not interested. The French, in particular have traditionally been unhappy with the US involvement in Europe and periodically raise the idea of migrating from NATO to an EU defence force (in which the USA would have no role). It is interesting to note that NATO has moved from the Hague in the Netherlands to Brussels, the centre of EU administration. The purpose of NATO was always to maintain peace for NATO members, not to grow to achieve a bigger budget. Whilst the American approach to achieve this seems to be about taking action around the world and parking missile defence systems in several countries, the approach of many Europeans might be more along the lines of avoiding trouble and maintaining the status quo.
This has got to be one of the best news I have read so far Russia and France phasing out the United States of America by talking to each other and to have huge trade deals which has come to a great interest to me Russia giving France the opportunity for a discount in gas from Russia and in return France sells warship's to Russia and other means of great deal's. This is what Russia has been dying for an ear in Europe that hears sence, I hope President's Sarkozy and Medvedev does reach hopefully all or most common ground in Pan-European Security. Because unlike western influence it has failed in most parts of the Post-Soviet space like in Belarus, This country always was shunned out of the EU, Ukraine now has a neutral President and thinks for Ukraine citizens so that they can get the best out of both world's, Kazakhstan this country has like Belarus and Russia has become part of the newly formed "Custom's Union" to counter the European Union and to give competition, Finally Abkhazia and South Ossetia too has desires to join Both the Russia/Belarus union (Provided Belarus Recognises them) and the "Custom's Union" on Russia,Belarus, and Kazakhstan along side with Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. This further proves that the EU,NATO, and US are losing their influence and the Eastern world is moving on in peace and their own prosperity. Lets have high hopes that Russia and France does what the world has been needing for the past twenty years more competition and not a "One-Way" system. As for security in Europe and Russia that is an absolute due to Iran,North Korea and other Nuclear capable countries may aspire to have Nuclear Weapon's. that may pose a threat to Russia and it's allies and distant friend's. Finally lets hope that Russia and France may become the Pre-Curser to other international powers to join in on the tipping of balance into a "Complete Balanced" world once and for all.
I, sure wish than Russia and France have good and sincere relations, but I do not trust that machiavelic comedian, puppet of the Bushs and Neo-cons americans, who has through his origin (Hungarian "Noblesse") anti-social and anti-Russian genes. We must not forget than France is broke; if you add the admitted public debts, the private debts, the government lies and Sarkozy masochism and "folie des grandeurs" we have reached the two trillions € debts. Selling those "southern wind" Mistral is a business necessity. Never forget, as I have previously explained that for armaments deals France is cynical and without scruples ( When we sold "navy-fregates to Taïwan, a dozen persons died for tricky dealing :commissions and retro-commissions). Mister Medvedev must not ignore than, a few days after his departure, our over travelling, over excited president will go to report to his real masters: the US Neo-cons and Obama, in Washington. I wish to be mistaken but I seriously doubt about the sincerity of the French side in that meeting, other than for business agreements...Sincerely. Jean-Claude Meslin

It is funny hear all the rhetoric if you look back into the history. The idea of surrounding Russia with hostile limitrophe was a German idea dated back to 19 century. Paul Rohrbach, Eduard von Hartmann formulated it nicely and it was German long term goal up to Hitler. After WWII USSR tried to eliminate the idea of Zwischeneuropa by Warsaw pact, whatever you can think about that. What makes it so funny is that Germans gave up the idea of Zwischeneuropa but US pick up the flag. (Heritage of Reinhard Gehlen, perhaps?) All the well paid hostility toward Russia in Ukraine, Poland, Baltics… fit to this ages old idea. Now France realized that the idea is well outlive itself but poor France comes under the fire. How dare they? No, no way from now I will call pommes frites only and only as a bratkartoffeln. Well, at the same time potatoes of freedom definitely sound better. I will think about that
