When will Israel start supporting America?

With the US taxpayer already shelling out huge sums for the benefit of Israel, will Washington’s demands to freeze Israeli settlement construction come about, or is the relationship between the two truly one-sided?

From the time of Eisenhower to Barack Obama, Helen Thomas enjoyed a 57-year stint working as a Washington correspondent, until an ill-advised comment on Israel sent her into early retirement.

If anyone studied the constitution, they would learn that there is a different standard for people in the "public eye". She said what she wanted and her words carried a great deal of weight, influence and so much hate. People who have fame do not have the same legal protection as an ordinary citizen. Please read the constitution, look at court cases. This correspondent has set back what little progress, the Barack Hussein Obama administration has worked so hard for. This public voice incited an horrid amount of hate and anger! I commend the White house for showing the world that her words are not, never have been and will never be how this government works. In Lincoln's words "of the people, by the people, for the people."

Wonderful article! Yours is the only one examining PC and pre-package news. We're all drinking the koolaid; many of us aren't happy. I am deeply saddened that Helen Thomas should be sacrificed to PC. She's a role model..

Where does Helen Thomas get her ideas? Not only is she an anti-Semitic bigot, she is not even original! Just a few weeks ago official PA TV called for Israelis to leave Israel and "return" to Germany and Poland: "Where are you [Israelis] from? Of course, you're from Ukraine; of course, you're from Germany, from Poland, from Russia, from Ethiopia... I ask of you, return to your original homeland!" [PA TV (Fatah), May 4 and 7, 2010]

US is no longer a free country.......it is an occupied Israeli territory. No one dares to speak the truth. Criticizing Israel will not be tolerated.....clear message to all journalists. Now we the people have to see how many journalists have courage to speak the truth.

All one has to do is look at the Roman coliseum and know the history of Roman removal of Jews from Judea. The coliseum was built from the proceeds of the riches and slaves gained from the 67 AD Roman re-conquest of Judea. Not all Jews were removed and Jews have remained in what Romans called Palestine since biblical times to the present. Turkish census of Jerusalem at the turn of the century showed Palestine nearly devoid of people except for Jews and a few Arabs living still in Jerusalem. When Jews came to live in what was called Palestine the purchased land from Arab absentee owners living in Damascus and Cairo. The Arabs were too eager to sell at outrageous prices, land they considered worthless. It was the Jewish revolution that brought business, farming, industry back to what was a desolate place. Arabs came from Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan to come and work in Jewish developed businesses and farming. I worked there as a foreigner along with many Arabs from all over the Middle East and they had no original homeland there, they too were newcomers looking for work. Out of all the Arab workforce only 2% were originally living there prior to the Jewish state. Islam has a codicil in the Koran that states once land has been conquered by Islam that it never be relinquished and reconquered as soon as possible. To this day Muslims want the Iberian peninsula returned. Islam is a religion of war and conquest not a religion of peace. Only after the Dar al Harb (world at war,) is conquered for Islam does it become Dar al Salam, the world at peace.

Helen Thomas was expressing her personal opinion to the rabbi and she had no idea he was recording her comments to broadcast to the world ! She was a young woman when she saw the creation of Israel and she has been watching it develop for all these 60+ years ! Israel receives 10 Billion + dollars from American taxpayers every year and as an American taxpayer she has a right to comment on a country that receives aid from her country ! She is not a politician who publicly called the President a liar while he was talking ! Shame on Obama ! He should have given her another chance , but the Zionist extremists in the Whitehouse obviously control him !

Let me explain. The silencing of Helen Thomas has nothing to do with the US First Amendment. The First Amendment protects citizens from government prosecution, but it does not protect citizens from their employers reaction to their statements. So it is Hearst who took action.

helen thomas may have excegerated her views, but in the view of most people in Europe it would help to make the worlld a more peaceful place if the USA stopped all financial help to Israel. We here cannot understand why the USA maintains such close ties with the "terrorist" regime of Israel

There needs to be a new law in the USA. AIPAC is a foreign agent, and anyone affiliated with AIPAC should forfeit their classified security clearance and the ability to change the constitution. Of course this will never happen because between AIPAC and the rest of the termites in our monetary system, CFR, TC, and Bilderburg have already chosen their path. Hating AIPAC has nothing (read zero) to do with hating the Jewish. It has EVERYTHING to do with not breaking your oath of office and protecting our constitution against all enemies. The US government, Pentagon, CIA, and NSA need to have their security clearances highly scrutinized to remove these oath breaking termites.

Gary already said some of what I was going to say, here's the rest: I don't really have any preference for unscripted over scripted responses because I care about the content of what one says and not the manner in which they deliver it. It's completely stupid to accuse the Obama administration of being as bad a Nixon just because it wants to give a scripted answer to a question, particularly when it is only the press secretary who would be doing the talking anyway. It's his job to give preplanned responses. People who call Helen Thomas a racist are either ignorant or else they don't know how to think or don't want to. Every country has a vast noisy horde of people who fall into this category, and the media often just relays, and thereby amplifies their message. That's what happened here. That's what often happens in the US with anything about Israel. The internet has given such people, among others, even more of a voice because these people are, owing to their strong non-nuanced opinions, more likely than other non-professionals to want to write about the news.

Gary Max is correct. Helen Thomas is the tip of the iceberg of American media propaganda. She also admitted that the media was liberal which they don't admit. I commend Helen for admitting she is not a fair and objective reporter. The author of this article is another example of propaganda or just plain ignorance of American law. When the muslims stop bombing innocent people then there will be peace. Brave men face other men on the battlefield or in a real fight one on one. muslim terrorists are cowards as well as the people who support them including Obama who sent millions to the palestinaians and does nothing about unemployment or the poor in America.

"If it was Hearst,..." According to polling data, over 60% of the American people sympathize more with the Israelis than with the Palestinians and less than 20% sympathize with the Palestinians more than with the Israelis. American Jews with close ties to Israel are part of the reason for this, as is the belief of radical Christians that God wants Israel to belong to the Jews. These people are very noisy, and though the population in general is rather lukewarm and uncertain about the whole issue, they tend to the lean towards a moderated version of the views of the aforementioned constituencies. Although a significant minority of people, including myself, would be in favor of wholly or partially withdrawing US support for Israel unless and until behaves better, next to no one in US would defend a view so radical as that Israel should just disband and the Jewish diaspora should be reestablished. Helen Thomas's comments were therefore viewed as indefensible by such a large majority of Americans that if she hadn't been fired everyone associated with her stay, from her employers to the white house, would've suffered severe political damage. The media in the US is largely a blind instrument; many prominent people would've called for Helen's ouster, the media would've gone ahead and reported what they said, and the equivalent of a fierce propaganda campaign would've ensued with each side sparring to the overall detriment of the defendants. If Helen had said something more moderate and sellable but nevertheless still very controversial, such as that the US should withdraw support from Israel until it agrees to a permanent settlement freeze on the West Bank or comes up with a more acceptable solution to Hamas in Gaza than the blockade then the result may have been a positive national discussion that could've served to isolate the extremists on the right. Instead she said something so disagreeable that the opposite occurred.

Americans are very well known for having already made one Holocaust: The one against native Indians. I presume the next massive Holocaust is going to be against Jews who ransacked trillions USD from American taxpayers and Americans will surely not forget that because in US almost every aspect of life is valued through dollars. Mrs Thomas only spoke loudly what other Americans think within themselves (for now, at least). Mrs Thomas's exposition is only the top of an iceberg. One negative side effect is that many innocent Jews (scientists, writers, ordinary Jew people) will probably suffer for what they actually are not to be blamed for. Those the most responsible, the top Jewish bannkers for example, will probably fly away on time.
