Under the hot Southern California sun immigrant workers are picking the foods consumed by millions of Americans and people around the world.

I had personal experience with illegals at a resort I worked at. I can tell you that Americans absolutely want jobs in house keeping, fruit picking, construction and manufacturing. However they want a fair wage! Americans don't get to take wages back to a different country where they get a 60% mark up after the exchange rate and they still want these jobs! At the resort I worked at, a human resources manager was fired for not bringing in enough illegals to fill the jobs. Instead, the resort had to hire locals and pay them a couple dollars more per hour. Many of these locals told me they had been trying to get jobs in housekeeping at the resort for years!

Americans don't work for low wages. Any employer has to be attractive to employees by having reasonable wages.

Illegal immigrants definitely take jobs from citizens and legal immigrants. Whether people want to admit it or not, wages are determined by supply and demand. The illegals have not only taken jobs but have driven wages down in virtually all jobs from IT work to totally unskilled jobs. The people who focus only on farm jobs are trying to justify their illogical support of illegal immigration. If you take all of the illegals out of the fields, the wages will increase to the point that legals will want the farm jobs. Unfortunately, our government does not believe in supply and demand or the equality of all mankind. They will bring in what they call guest workers to insure that farm pay never rises to a living wage.

I hope that every American, regardless of where he lives, will stop and examine his conscience about this and other related incidents. This Nation was founded by men of many nations and backgrounds. It was founded on the principle that all men are created equal, and that the rights of every man are diminished when the rights of one man are threatened. All of us ought to have the right to be treated as he would wish to be treated, as one would wish his children to be treated, but this is not the case. I know the proponents of this law say that the majority approves of this law, but the majority is not always right. Would women or non-whites have the vote if we listen to the majority of the day, would the non-whites have equal rights (and equal access to churches, housing, restaurants, hotels, retail stores, schools, colleges and yes water fountains) if we listen to the majority of the day? We all know the answer, a resounding, NO! As for the undocumented workers, as was attributed to Ronald Reagan “It’s the Economy, Stupid”. When the economy is good you say let’s all celebrate “Cinco de Mayo, my brothers” but when the economy is down “it’s all your fault, you damn immigrant”. This too will pass, the real problem is the narcos, arms and people smugglers and that’s what the focus should be on. Today we are committed to a worldwide struggle to promote and protect the rights of all who wish to be free. In a time of domestic crisis men of good will and generosity should be able to unite regardless of party or politics and do what is right, not what is just popular with the majority. Some men comprehend discrimination by never have experiencing it in their lives, but the majority will only understand after it happens to them.

Funny thing is I NEED a job and I signed up on the website in this article and guess what?!? I got a call back but I had to be willing to relocate to Iowa. I apply for the same jobs the illegals do but again I do not get the jobs for 2 reasons. I will not work for less than minimum wage and I do not speak Spanish.

The United States govt. pushed for NAFTA over a decated ago, even when many mexicans (people not govt) were against it and protested, but the puppet mexican goverment subordinate obviously to the USA signed the agreement. The outcome was that US farm corps. dramatically increased their sales (profit) forcing their products into the mexican market at much lower prices (US farmers get huge federal subsidies that mexicans do not have acces to). Thus, mexican farmers went out of business, due to the unequal market competition. Consider this, before NAFTA Mexico used to produce all the corn for domestic demand needs and also exported a big chunk of it. Today, Mexico has to import corn to cover over 90% of its domestic demand (this is just one example). So, you bunch of morons, what do you expect for people to do? just sit and wait around and die in their mexican farms? Illegal immigration is a natural effect of actions taken by the more powerful advantageous states. Don't buy all the bull from the media, find out the facts for yourselves and hit the problem at its source. NAFTA is just an example of the many obscure foreign policies that have greatly contributed to the immigration fenomenon. Find out who's making the money behind the scenes while all this unfolds.

FAIL. The "jobs American won't do" argument is so full of fallacy is ridiculous. First, for as often as you hear the illegal immigrant farmer angle pushed, look at the numbers. Only 3-4% of illegals work in farming. 17-19% work in construction, 20-30% work in service industries, 12% in sales, 8%in tranportation, all jobs Americans would certainly do. Second, the argument is made that Americans want too much money to do the work. No, they want a fair price. Illegals are cheaper because they will accept below minimum wage, with no workmans comp. READ: Less than what the government has deemed legal. Amnesty supporters are actually trying to advocate that point? Read it with some common sense attached. We're talking about allowign illegal immigrants to undercut American workers by accepting less than what an American legally could. Its underbidding, pure and simple. the reverend's "racism" claim is silly as well. Why do anti immigration policy and programs seem to target hispanics? Is it because everybody is racist? OR, is it because 57% of illegals are Mexican, another 24% are from other Latin American countries, compared with 6% from all of Europe. Hmm... why do hispanics draw the focus again? Exactly. The proamnesty crowd's typical arguments simply hold no truth upon scrutiny.

Let me add, the mythical 11$ head of lettuce argument is flawed too. The old scare tactic that food will become unaffordable, lettuce will cost 10$ apples will cost 20. Lol. First, common sense and business. Fruit will never go above the price that the consumer is willing to pay for it. If lettuce become smore expensive the commercial growers will either, accept lower profit margin, find a more efficient way to produce, or grow soemthign else. As for the ACTUAL cost of growing food without illegal labor? We already know what it is. You want to know how much is costs to buy produce grown by an American? Two words: Farmer's Market. Thousands of people in America choose to hit the local farmer's market in their town for fresh, locally grown, usually organic fruts and vegetables every week, and I doubt a single one of them has pad 11$ for lettuce yet.

I have watched for the last couple years the onslaught of Ukrainian workers into Sunriver Resort in the summertime.Last year 2009 the business owners said they would stop hiring them because they were taking american jobs, but this year 2010 they rehired them plus more.I along with many others were let go and the Ukrainians were given all the work.In September when they go home they leave having made alot of money tax free!!How does that help our american economy? Its really a travesty and someone should ask some hard questions of the business owners in Sunriver Resort who hire these immigrants..

I picked strawberries-once. I would not do it again if I were held at gunpoint. It is backbreaking work, much as most of the work done by agricultural workers is. Without them, we would either lack produce, pay a much higher price or do it ourselves. Most of us would feel the same. The United Farm Workers are right. Most Americans would not do these jobs, many of us even at several times what they earn. Driving through the California Central Valley in air conditioned comfort, most of us have no idea what it is to work at stoop labor in one hundred plus degrees. But if we are serious about ending illegal immigration, we should look to those who hire the workers. Perhaps instead of building barriers against people in need, we should jail the land barons who profit from them. Then we would see a change!

we should just let the mexicans farm the produce in mexico and if we want to buy it we can and if not we can buy from our american farmers, lets see how it works out, that's the way it used to be and then the mexicans can go back and stay home and be happy campers.

Strawberries cost like $5 here for 16 oz....how much would they cost if we got rid of all the immigrants and hired Americans who would demand $11/hour minimum plus benefits?  Just wondering..
