A recent poll shows US illegal immigration fell nearly 65 percent in recent years. But anti-immigrant hysteria is still on the rise in America.
The report was released by the nonpartisan Pew Hispanic Center.
Radio host Thom Hartmann argued that some in America fear immigrants and others use that fear as a political tool, scapegoating immigrants as the cause for American woes. Hartmann said the past 30 years of economic policy have lead to today’s economic crisis, but the anti-immigration movement is blaming immigrants instead.
“The jobs are gone and so you get demigogs like Newt Gengrich who are saying, ‘It’s them, it’s those brown people coming in from South America or from whatever you know, from Mexico’. The creation of an ‘other’ has always been the tools of demigogs and it’s always been a very convenient political tool and so we’ve got people on the right who are basically saying to people who are economically devastated and don’t realize it has nothing to do with immigration it has to do with trade policy, saying to them this is because of immigration policy, get hysterical. And they’re using that, and really it’s a very not particular subtle form of racism,” said Hartmann.
He also explained that it is a human instinct to view one’s family and community first and see others as threats; however humanity is now working in modern society to transcend that nature.

US bailouts failing to help most AmericansTwo years and $148 billion dollars later, the bailout of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac has not helped most Americans. |
It is not unreasonable for Americans to express their desire for illegal immigrants and their off-spring to leave USA and to return to their country of origin, whether voluntarily or by forced repatriation by the USA government . There is also nothing wrong with USA erecting fences on its borders to control borders which should have been done a long time ago. Russia would do well to learn from the USA experience and continue to keep its borders tightly controlled and continue with having a visa system for visitors from Western Europe.
You can expect a report like this to come from an Hispanic Center, and the rest of the world eats it up, but being a native from Los Angeles I have seen in the past years areas that were once nice turn into latino ghettos, illegal drugs and gangs rampant! Large families taxing our social systems to death! Oh yeah, I was in the construction business about 30 years agaio, at that time a good non union carpenter was earning about $30 an hour, now that wage is down to about $20! going down instead of up like it should! Its a dream come true if you have alot of $ but if you are a commom worker it stinks. Of course the Fedral Government hasent and isnt doing anything about it because they generally take the side of the rich at the expense of the poor, and when a state like Arizona passes its own legislation to stop this ILLEGAL abuse, the Federal Government attacks the state. Enough!

Its too easy to blame immigrants for a countries social/economic problems. In some cases. like the United States, the immigration problem was a consequence of free trade agreements (long story short, heavily subsidized US corn dropped on Mexico put tons of locals out of work, American food companies then set up advertising in Mexico saying "come work for the USA slaughter house and meat packing") and not to mention the other non-immigration related problems which cripple economies and end up needlessly chocking welfare (ahem rising fuel prices).
Look at the broader picture, the biggest demographic of this generation is the decline of birthrates, you scoff at the immigrant now but in the not so distant future the public and private sector will be paying immigrants to come work in their country. Read the writing on the wall…
