Iraq has agreed to pay $400 million to American citizens who say they were tortured or traumatized by Saddam Hussein’s regime after he invaded Kuwait in 1990. Locals are outraged.

I am not at all surprised by this story. Historically, Americans almost always act recklessly and focus on what they can extract the societies they conquer and occupy. Iraqis will not forget their own dead when the GHB unleashed killing machine on fleeing Iraqi soldiers in 1991 not will they forget 1,000,000 plus Iraqi dead since the U.S invasion of Iraq in 2003. Iraqis have reduced to lives of poverty and squalors, dirty and polluted environment even as Americans occupy Saddam Hussein’s mansions as well as building new colonial structures of the “green zone of occupation” and 8B embassy fortress in the heart of Baghdad but it will end badly for the U.S imperialists as Iraqis will never submit to the will of racist occupiers

Does the plundering of this country by the US know no bounds?

The American rape of Iraq just continues as long as the American puppets are kept in power by the American occupation forces. The loss of 4,500 American soldiers is America's justification for sucking the last life blood out of the Iraqi people. Whenever America invades another country under the banner of 'let us help you", the local people get raped, while the Americans and their traitorous puppets enrich themselves.

The US should be paying IRAQ for the mess it made both times, especially the heavy use of DU in their munitions which effect all of the people in the area, if anything the US should be held for war crimes for both wars because in the end it again was all about OIL! As far as the people caught in the 1990 Irag mess, they had PLENTY of warning and opportunity to get out WAAAY before a shot was fired!

Well said, Abdel Bari Atwan. If the invasion of Kuwait requires such compensation to be paid to its victims, how much more is owed to the victims of the US invasion of Iraq?

Yes, the U.S. should pay Iraqis over $2 billion because they did the same as Sadam in 1991 but multiply x 10.... Besides, the U.S. has been the Anti-Christ in Iraq. After the American invasion and occupation a 1,800 year presence of Christianism in Iraq has been devastated.

Spot on PR101. They will not forget. Any country that suffered under US terror will not forget. And they must not! Btw. has anyone out of "free and democratic world" ever given an estimated figure of dead Iraqi casualties? Nah! Has anyone asked the question how come that private military contractors can kill civilians with no reason and remain unpunished!? Nah. I am just waiting for the Blowback League! The League that does not know any religion, any ideology but has only one goal: pay back! Sooner or later it will come! It has to because it is the normal flow of history. And I will be sitting back, watching TV and eating popcorn.

This sounds very similar to what happened with the Versailles Treaty after the first world war, Germany had to pay huge huge compensations to the victors. In the situation of Iraq, such compensations should have been demanded when Saddam's troops had to withdraw from Kuwait. Since Iraq was illegally invaded by the US and its puppets and subsequently occupied to this day, and then found to be guilty of that illegal invasion by various inquiries, it should be the other way round, logically speaking. The Iraqi people have the right to demand compensation for all that they have suffered under this invasion/occupation. Also any funds that were frozen from the Saddam regime should already have been returned to Iraq. Neither should the US have any say in how the Iraq government is formed or who the people should vote for. They should leave. As for the amount of $400 million this leaves another question. What will be the value of that $400 million next spring in international money markets. The way things are going for the US economy, including the world economy on a prognosis are not rosy, they are indeed very bleak. As the the world continues down the path of trying to kick start an international economy and financial markets that are all based on a, once US solvent dollar that is now insolvent and cannot be made solvent again, is a road to darkness. The consequences of this are unthinkable, given what is happening politically and economically in the world. The Iraqi's should start to come together as a people now, put aside their differences and say no to US interference in their internal political affairs and prepare for the evacuation of the remaining US troops in their land without any bloodshed. Those who do not want to leave should be forced to leave back to their own homeland.

At first I said- what a joke! But then- no, it is actually smart. Just don't pay a cent, countersue for 400 billion for the illegal invasion and then subtract 400 million. Deal?

So at first americans discover some arabic country on top of their oil wells and after intensive bombing finding a handful still left on those oil reserves they put a tax on their survival and make them pay for the rest of their lives for the fact that they were not the fortunate ones who were hit by the bombs... Everybody welcome to the guided tour of the museum of the New World Order!

Do they really think their tax is paying for these US adventures? they attacked Iraq 3 times kept Saddam twice on the third time he had cancer otherwise he was still there. Now they want compensation? Compensation for what? didn't you took enough?
