Even as plans to build a mosque and Ground Zero in New York City move forward, fear of Islam and misunderstand of its major tenets is growing in America.

Islamaphobia, can someone please explain this word to me so I understand this correctly or help me at least get the facts straight for myself. The word is overly exposed from where I come and live, this word has been misused in different smear campaigns amongst political parties that still today allows an immigration of 100,000 refugees per year mostly of Islamic origin combined with a failed immigration system and getthos growing in the big cities without any end to the destruction and anger growing in these settlements that now indigenous residents has left out of violent cultural clashes, and almost monthly rioting. When are you a Islamophobic? As soon as you say halt we can't handle any more refugees, lets sit down and take a talk about how to solve the issues we currently have? When the immigration numbers exceeds the numbers of indigenous population each year? Are we Islamaphobic if we think that the politicians got to take their responsibility and clear up their failed immigration floods we experiences in the suburbs of Paris France or Malmö, Sweden? When are you a Islamophobic? is it when you forbid the Burka on public places? or the buildings of more Minarets and mosques in our cities and towns to preserve our cultural heritage? Please RT help me out with this word, I would be most grateful if you could clear this word out in lets say Cross Talks or the like. Many Kind Regards an concerned citizen in a dying country with more immigrates in our small towns then soon indigenous citizens.

Shilka.maskirovka I do not think "Islamophobia" is over used term. The West and, the United States specially, have clear and well documented covert policies that support and normalise Ismophobia. The West and the United States specially are at present conducting many wars in Muslim lands and are preparing to start another war on Iran. The West and the United States specially often claim that they are not at war with the Muslim world despite the facts on the ground show that they are engaged in "Christian crusading aggression" masquerading in guise of "secular liberal interventionism". The West and the United States claim that they must bring wars to the Muslim world in order to bring democracy to the Muslim world! So why the United States and Europe are suppressing the basic rights of Muslims in Europe and the United States? In reality, Europe and the United States support politics of dictatorship and Islamic fundamentalism in the Muslim world. The only Muslim countries with democratic policies are those which are not under the control of the United States and Europe. Thus, Europe [old colonial societies with deeply engrained colonial mentalities] and the United States [the new empire of chaos] are deeply steeped in Islamophobia. In the United States, since the tragic event of 9/11 Islamophobia got great deal worse. The only new story in this report is how blatant Islamophobia got since 9/11.

PR 101 I understand, I myself did buy a lot of what happened to the US right after the 9/11 attacks before I found out that there where alternative news agency's to CNN, Fox News, and the local propaganda. I then did a school essay on the history of Terrorism and found out this had been in exist all since the times of the Hashshashin. I do not understand the word Islamaphobic, in Sweden it has been used by politicians as a tool to silence the general public, it is a word that is used in any case dealing with faith based issues, be it political or when battling free press, you are immediately an Islamaphobic if you point out faith based differences with European and Swedish cultural and historic heritage. What I think the world seems to forget is that a big part of Europe where in fact in the hands of the Ottoman Empire for not that long ago, there are other examples as well of how Islam has directly changed the nature of different countries. Lebanon where in the 50s considered the pearl of the Middle East a mini Paris you could say with freedoms we enjoy up here in Scandinavia today. Islamaphobics may or may not be in their rights to question faith and its implications in politics, the church is no longer connected with the state, religion and state does not mix, while many imams and other Islamic scholars emphasises on the fact that, when a nation got a majority of Muslim followers, they also need to take control of the government as well, we have seen it happen in Lebanon, Iran 1979 from its then secular system to a theocratic constitution, this has happens in every nation up to this date when Islam has gone from minority to majority, Indonesia the same but no one is allowed to point these facts out cause then you are an Islamaphobic, when you in reality can get these basics from our history at any time.

To: Shilka.maskirovka I do not think that any new mosques in the U.S included on ground zero will change many Muslim minds toward the U.S until the U.S stops its aggressive foreign policy toward the Muslim world. Also, please tell me if I am wrong, but I have a distinct feeling that you are implying the current European Islamophobia is a “payback” to the Othman imperial rule over some European territories few centuries ago. Is this the reason why key European leaders are blocking Turkey’s membership to the EU? As for terrorism existing before 9/11, each act of terrorism has a different objective and these objectives are not constant. I do not think there is a great love or respect for the United States in the Muslim world.I do not think even if the U.S builds a Mosque that is taller than the twin towers in Manhattan, it will change many Muslim’s negative views of the United States until the U.S ceases its aggressive U.S foreign policy toward the Muslim world. Europeans are the products of deeply seated colonial cultures. Their claim of tolerance of difference is almost always conditional, transient rather than reciprocal and symmetric.

You would actually think that having a Mosque or some sort of cultural centre about Muslims in the area would help foster more knowledge about Islam (I'm not Muslim, by the way) in NYC. Instead, they outright refuse it to be built.

yes Americans are “ignorant” about Islam. They see women being stoned to death and not extended even the basic human rights in Islamic countries and they are to “ignorant” to see the true face of Islam. They see Muslim countries trying to legislate universal blasphemy laws through the UN yet they are too “ignorant” to see the true face of Islam. They see demands in their public schools to accommodate Muslims religious beliefs, they see Christian ministers ostracized for praying in Jesus name, they see Muslims demanding the segregation of their public swimming pools and gyms to accommodate their religion yet they are too “ignorant” to see the true face of Islam. They see shariah law implemented in Britain and the advocating for the same in the US and yet they still remain “ignorant. They see Muslims demanding that their women have the “right” to cover their faces in public regardless of the fact that no one else has the “right” to do so…all these things and thousands of others Americans are shown and yet they are still “ignorant” about Islam so we must build this thirteen story mosque. no wait it is a community center with a mosque in it…no wait it is a community center with a prayer space in it….no wait (stay turned for the next metamorphosis) to be named Cordoba House (until it became public knowledge exactly what that name stands for)…no wait it is to be named ……something or other

So now stating facts about Radical Islam is called Islamphobia? The usual nonsense when anybody critisizes there political ideolgy. Unlike your segments where you put on a liberal looking to bash anyone speaking out about Islamic extremists. First off, Cordoba house ( the ground zero mosque) will be viewed as a trophy to extremists, its iman calls for the US to be sharia compliant, and refuses to denounce Hamas. Is that not radical enough for your show? What will you be pandering to the sympathies of the Beslan terrorists, or the black widow bombers on your show next? No radical Islam and the ideology there fighting to spread is a threat that goes way beyond Al Qeada, and is a global struggle. Your so called Moderate Muslims need to start seriously denouncing the acts and ideology of the Islamic extremists, and stop appeasing them if they want to be taken seriously as a religion of peace.

I am a US citizen of Russian descent. I grew up in the 1950's when hating the Russian people was popular and the generally accepted thing to do in the USA. Senator Eugene McCarthy was the then -popular voice of America's hate and venom unleashing imprisonments, blacklists, denial of constitutional rights ruining the lives of many innocent uninvolved people. Of course all Russian-Americans were Communists. Of course. Stupid ignorant Americans. Some things never seem to change - unfortunately. So I have complete empathy with all those in the United States who want to live their lives and honor their traditions, religion, values from wherever they may have come. Those citizens of Middle Eastern descent are the current target of America's hate and venom. It is ugly and it is destructive. The world-wide propaganda describing the fantasyland called the United States of America misleads many people who come here looking for a free, just and caring land waiting for them with open arms. Statue of Liberty? Propaganda! It is a shock to find out you have been suckered to find that you may have sacrificed for a better life and may now be stuck and unable to get out. Trapped. As for this latest hate-targeted group, know you are but one more victim now added to America's hate list. "Welcome" to the "Most Hated Club". It is ugly and you are not the first group to be hated and you will not be the last group to be hated - as if that helps. Good Luck. I unfortunately understand what these American "Irrationals" do to their hated and despised targets unleashing their sick and twisted vengeance. Sad. Very sad. The"Golden Rule” is propaganda and rarely – if ever – practiced. Stay tuned to find out who will be added next to America’s “Most Hated Club”. Be 100% assured there will be another to follow you as American history continues to repeat itself ad infinitum. Don't expect anything close to rational or logical from these American -"Educated" Hateful people. I know.

melnickrj, you are absolutely right.  I and my family have suffered as you and for the same reason.  I wish my parents stayed where they were after being freed from nazi camps.  Though they didn't say so, I know they wished it as well.  They came here to leave Communism for the promise of a better life.  Their years in America were painstakingly difficult and short.  My family pitted one against the other.  God rest their precious souls.  God Bless You Brother.  God is good!
