Wanna have Gitmo convicts around?

A promise to shut the Guantanamo Bay torture camp is proving rather more difficult for Barack Obama in office than on the election trail, because so far, nobody can tell what to do with the camp's inmates.

Lawlessness imported from America

Iraq and Afghanistan are generally painted as countries that are teeming with lawlessness, but American cases of theft, rape and murder reveal that some of the unsavory elements in the Middle East are imported.

I am not backing any of my country's actions and agree with many things I read in RT. But what gives me humor, is reading RT and seeing that its the mirror image of many complaints, or what have you, of what it publishes. Let me guess. When your Spetsnaz or common soldier's were in Afghanistan did they hand out flowers? When war happens. WAR happens. There is nothing good that comes from any of it. This daily point the finger and accuse commentary you put out reflects the childness of the worlds problems. Russia is not even controlling its own domestic problems but RT can sure paint a green picture out of it. I'am not sure where your hot air factory is that you all inflate yourselves with but if you got charged for it we could blame you for the economic downfall. Your a super power for God's sake and have, and will in the future I'am sure, produce great things. As a US citizen I held Russia in high regards. These days after reading RT its like turning on comedy central. Grow up and act your age and intellect.

RT is merely printing the same stories that I have seen right here in the USA media. The USA has many "bad apples" in the military forces and EVEN MORE among the contractors that accompany the troops to Iraq. The contractor company from North Carolina, Black Water comes to mind as an example of some of the "bad apples". Those civilian guys are paid by the US Govt. and they have killed many innocent Iraqis, including several Christian women who worked as translators for the Americans. The Blackwater guys shot up their car for NOTHING! Black Water lost their contract, went home and re-organized the company under a new name and are now back in Iraq. SHAME on them.

As it is now, both the US and Russia have much to do to improve thier world image. I believe there are mostly very good people in both countries. The problem is that the leadership in these countries, make decisions and act in what in most cases, is selfish indulgement. Greed for power and financial gains are what drives both goernments.

Here's the problem Chad Bluem, Sept. 1, 2009. The Russian are not in Iraq and Afghanistan waging war. Therefore, they are not to blame for the rapes, cold -blooded murders of old men women children and whole families by American soliders. Here's the deal. The 3rd world is in great anticipation for the war to seriously end all wars, that will happen between Russia and America. What's will you say then, when they're over here raping murdering and stealing on American soil? Becuse you seem to accept it happening to the Muslims.

Russia loves to paint a bad picture of other countries becuase they have looked so bad to the rest of the world for so long. They treat their own civilians the same way they treat their enemies in war.

I think it is quite unfair and unfocused to blame RT for actions of the Russian government. I also think it is unfair to drag what Russia does or has done into a conversation about America. It is important to remember several things when reading RT articles: 1. Some writers are non-Russian freelancers who request that their articles be published. Not all story ideas are generated by RT. 2. Some people do get offended when their country is shown in an unfavorable light. Unfortunately, it seems that those people are missing the larger issue. Bad news is reported because bad news happens. People and governments can, to a large degree, control what is said about them by controlling their actions. 3. War is generally considered to be a consequence. Therefore, improper actions taken by those who bring war should also have consequences. The US claims that they are in the Middle East to promote democracy. For that to happen, they must be models. Although there will be "bad apples," those need to be dealt with in a manner that shows commitment to the stated mission. Additionally, the system needs to be structured to discourage "bad apples" from acting on their impulses. A bit of digging, whether from Russia, America, or elsewhere will show that right now, America's efforts to punish or prevent crimes in these war zones are not commendable.
