The head of the British intelligence service MI6 has reportedly said that Russia bears part of the blame for the start of the war in Iraq.
How farfetched to blame Russia, more like desperation to create a scapegoat when the fingers points at Blair n co.
The British and American political, military and corporate elites have the blood of millions of Iraqis in their hands. They know they have are looked upon not only by the Muslim world but the entire world outside Anglo American orbit as worst imperialists. Russia has gained immensely from the Anglo American naked aggression against Iraq. So, there it is no surprise the British security service may wish to shift the implication of the heinous war of mass murder and occupation into Russia. But only the uninformed will purchase their lies.
Outrageous, conquest of Iraq was planned long before 9-11 and the invasion of Afghanistan as well. Again more lies are used to justify war and aggression, the ususal first victim of war.
Oh I see where this is going - so if Russia do not support further sanctions on Iran will the US and UK be 'forced' to bomb that country too?. It looks like this guy actually belives his own lies.
This is the biggest distorted accusation the World has heard regarding the illegal Iraqi war. These kind of inverted practices are a commonplace in England and US even in their ordinary lives, as their cultural heritage it founded on deception, but to try to con the whole World for something which even 5 year old kid knows, is beyond anybodies comprehension.
What a weasel this guy is. Isn't he one of those people who "sexed up" intelligence reports for Tony Blair in order to stampede Parliament into going to war with Iraq? Article says he worked for Blair at the time. What a lame excuse.
Is it coincidence that even as an agent of the British intelligence points unconvincing accusing finger at Russia the next face of the looting bid of Iraqi oilfields has began in London?
The head of M16 is full of it. What is pathetic is not just the fact of the murder o the Iraqi people, but being a ridiculous murderer. The gangsters--neocons and their network configuration in Washington and Tel-Aviv with the wagging tail of their cohorts in 10 Downing St.--who decided on the invasion of Iraq and the decapitation of its people will try everything to cover up their heinous crimes against humanity. But to no avail. The day of reckoning is fast approaching. These people will be unmasked for what they are for the whole world to see: nothing but insatiable warmongers thirsty for other peoples' blood. Their fall is inevitable.
It is so rdiculous that I dont understand why wasting our time, discussing it. It confirm that the old cold-war's climat has not much changed. Russian leaders must take that into acount. Wishfull thinking is over; N-PiPO (Nobel-Peace-Price Obama) is no different that his predecessors were. Sorry Future Generations.Sincerely. Jean-Claude Meslin PS: PiPO is a french funny expression for bla-bla-bla: talking to say nothing
Sue for this Russia, it is a breach of contract with your partners. They have no right (ah hmmm, President Medvedev) to bring outrageous claims against Russia as a partner. Unless, the stage is being set to bore all the world with constant teeter-totter-trauma-drama and then we get tossed-to-and-fro by the uproar addicts who cannot figure out how to actually lead in the 21st Century - golly, gee, there is no manual for all the people sending in their flesh to be traded. Surprise, surprise. Why are the sane powers not more shocked at the insane?
Well done all those Senior MI6 officials who gathered more information on Russian businesses in Iraq than on the WMD! On a serious note I must say that an ordinary trader in Morocco knows that "Russians are good" and "Tony Blair is bad", yet my children's friends with three or four A-levels (Oxbridge candidates) still believe that Russia is to blame for the war in South Ossetia. Old habits towards Russia die hard here in England, but the speeches like that may have a profound damaging effect on old and young minds alike.
My tooth hurts ! Russia is to blame !
It is an interesting argument, but frankly I think it was Bushes aim to invade Iraq from the start. I think it unlikely that anything short of Saddam stepping down from power would've prevented him from pursuing the invasion and in the post 9/11 US political environment it is highly plausible he would've gotten his way even if his case looked a lot weaker. Nevertheless, the broader argument that in certain cases sanctions could prevent war may have some legitimacy. For instance, if nuclear war were to erupt on the Korean peninsula I don't think it would be wrong to attribute to China some of the blame for that. If a country's intransigence ensures a military conflict when with its cooperation a peaceful solution would have been possible, that country bears some responsibility for the ensuing military conflict. That having been said, while sanctions, particularly when they are entirely multilateral, are very good at weakening countries, they are not often good at making them more cooperative; also they have a tendency of hurting mostly innocent people. There are trade offs involved, and like war itself, the decision to sever economic ties shouldn't be taken lightly.
The US and the coalition of the killing were the war crime actors, they are the ones that illegaly invaded, tortured and raped as part of the Bush and Blair political purges in Iraq for control of Oil. Russia had no sanction control possible over these rogue coalition of the killing nations. They acted on their own, in persuit of their collonial ambitions. The argument that you didn't help force the victim to wear a longer skirt, to stop the rapist, doesn't work!
That MI6 's war explanation is so ridiculous than it is pathetic. When reading all the comments on that topic plus most others, about many subjects prooving how dishonnest and tricky are the anglo-american geo-politics, I keep on wondering how can russian decisions'makers can still trust those peoples and make sweet remarks about them. Please, explain that to me !!! One can use but not abuse !!! Sorry Future Generations ! Good Luck Russia ! HAPPY NEW YEAR . Best Regards. Jean-Claude Meslin
I feel sad to read the comments posted above as they leave me with the impression that a lack of objectivity has taken hold here. It is quite defendable for Russia to justify its actions to protect Russian interests... this is what the Veto is for. To say that Russia was not part of the process is quite frankly naive and belittles Russia’s importance in world affairs. It would not be the first time that Russia has used its influence to gain a favourable position. Stalin, before the Second World War, knew that if he would have a pact with Hitler, then war with Western Europe would take place and weaken both sides. This would and did leave Russia in a stronger position. The price for this is highly questionable. This price should also lead us to understand that intervention is sometimes necessary. Nobody was there to save 20 million Russians after the war had ended. I disagree with war and conflict; however, the killing of civilians by one owns government cannot be justified, even if it poses no threat to other countries. Every country had its part to play, good or bad, quietly or loudly. In a world that needs people to work together, we should not fail to be objective towards each other and not allow one source of information to cloud opinions. And we must all remember that no one is perfect, even if this is what some people or countries want you to believe.

Of course just blame Russia. Everybody knew at the time the British, US and other governments were making up/cooking the evidence against Iraq to justify war that they planned prior to September the 11th. He should know that Saddam did not have connections to international terrorism and 9/11 as MI6 is at the forefront of sponsoring Islamic terrorism and has connections to 9/11. MI6 agent Paddy Ashdown was over seeing the running of international Jihadists Chechen camps in Bosnia established since 89.
