The man believed to be behind many of Russia’s mafia syndicates has been placed on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted fugitives list.

The agency promised an award of US $100,000 for information that would lead to the arrest of Sergey Schneider, also known as Semyon Mogilevich.

The FBI press service said that Schneider resides in Moscow and that he is armed and considered very dangerous.

Schneider has over 12 different surnames and for 15 years has been wanted by Russia, Ukraine, Israel and USA.

In 2003 he faced 45 counts of fraud-related offences in the United States, but escaped punishment.

Last year, he was arrested in Moscow on tax evasion charges in connections with the Arbat Prestige company, but later freed on bail.
