Russia-NATO cooperation marred with unresolved issues - analyst

Independent political analyst Vladimir Kozin claims he is still quite skeptical about the warming between Russia and NATO.
The NATO Secretary General is in Moscow for an official visit to discuss Russia’s aid in Afghanistan, European security system and other issues of mutual interest.
“There is some improvement in Russia-NATO relations, but not that much," Kozin told RT. "Especially we are still confronted with military confrontation between each other. We are still seeing NATO bases moving closer to the Russian national territory, naval and air force activity, also NATO is still looming over our borders. A ballistic missile defense system (BMDS) will include much more components than in the previous George W. Bush plan to fill BMDSs in Europe.”

I don't believe it is Russia's interest to get too mired down in Afghanistan with NATO because once NATO extricates itself from this mess, they will again try to undermine Russian interests. NATO is controlled by America and, as long as America considers Russia as a competitor on the world scene, NATO's actions will never, ever be to Russia's benefit. Once NATO has extricated itself from the Afghan quagmire, they will offer membership to Ukraine and Georgia, and a new period of antagonism will develop between NATO and Russia. Russia should play her cards carefully to take advantage of NATO, and not the other way around.
Well in all it sounds interesting and surprizing alot. But excuse me i never believed in any good intentions toward Russia from Alliance's side. If am wrong - i'd be on the seventh heaven.But anyway for RF to be involved with the mess in Afganistan means to step back 10 yrs before. Or what interest does it have - just wonder.
