“NATO’s attack on Serbia the ultimate crime against peace”

It’s time to recognize the US-led NATO offensive against Serbia in 1999 as a historic mistake, Zivadin Jovanovic, former Foreign Affairs Minister of Yugoslavia told RT.
NATO's bombings of Serbia in 1999 is a contemporary Holocaust.
There is no doubt that Clinton should be on trail for this crime. Not many people realize why Americans have no clue about the bombings that happened in 1999. SO what was happening that day in America? 2 teenagers entered columbine high school and killed 13 people plus themsleves. Exactly 1 hour later the US gave the green light to start bombing Serbia. News coverage focused on the massacre for months talking about every little detail, when at the same time something 100 times worse was happening. The statue of Clinton in Kosovo should be removed by whatever force is needed.
"""Not to sound ungratefull, but considering what has happened during the last 20 years here, maybe they shouldn't have - they were the least of all evils. Or, maybe, in the near future, some similar process can occur...""" What do you mean? "They shouldn't have"?? Forgive me for being too edgy and pardon my poor English, but those words are also coming very often from Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Ukraine etc. People confusing liberation from Nazi and calling it "occupation"!! People (especially in Baltic countries) tend to forget that Nazi destroyed everything and did not considered half of the planet population human. We were one big country and all of a sudden (thanks NATO again) if I am walking in Riga and speaking Russian (by the way I am Russian) I could be called an occupant any minute!!? Look what happened with war monuments of Soviet soldiers! They are being destroyed and demolished! In Riga formal Nazi soldiers parade as heroes?!! Does it show in European media or in US? I doubt it. It is a shame and I am glad that my granddad who liberated Poland and Baltic countries and was twice wounded died and does not see all that absurd. In addition, in US school books you would read that USA liberated the Europe from Nazi!!! It is nonsense! As for Serbia, we, Russian, always loved it culture, language and most importantly we share the religion. Hope they will remember and respect Russia as a true friend and will not trade this friendship to someone with the big smile and big promises.
@Robert Curly Jacobs; During Soviet influence over Afghanistan, that is, decades before Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, women made a remarkable progress in that country. You may not be aware of that, since these things have been flushed down the history black hole. Nowadays, Russia would rather forget the Afghanistan's episode. Nonetheless, that was the only period when women participated in all aspects of state and social life. As a student in Europe, I made many friends with the students from Afghanistan, both men and women. I learned a great deal about their lives, changes in the society, their career prospects and dreams. They all came from major population centers, mostly Kabul. And they were aware of the disapproval of tribal elders when it comes to women working, going to school, especially abroad, and women holding many positions in government. But they were optimistic. They were sure that with time, and with more young people embracing new values, the times were going to change. Until Zbignew Brzezinski and some congressmen decided to ship arms to the tribal leaders, and brought an external reinforcements, Al-Qaeda, stitched for this purpose in Saudi Arabia. The rest is history. Today, US will not move a finger to really help women. The objective is to control Afghanistan, set up bases and divide and conquer tribes. Women's interests are the decoration for the gullible at home.
Well done RT! People all over world shouldn't forget what NATO did. Even today they are killing children and civilians in Afghanistan but we know little about it as same as the rest of the world did not knew what really was happening in Yugoslavia in `99. But facts do not lie. After the death of Tito in 1980. a year after Albanians made huge demonstrations in Kosovo and Metohija wanting secession of Serbian (Yugoslavian) territory. It was only after 15 years (after wars in Bosnia and Croatia) that western countries led by NATO helped them establish so called "Kosovo liberation army" a terrorist organization that killed thousands of Serbian civilians and policemen in Kosovo and Metohija before the bombing. Serbian police needed to secure the property and life of its citizens. That response was enough for NATO to bomb a sovereign European state that was only defending its people. And they started bombing us in march `99. And in June `99. NATO came in Kosovo and Metohija. 9 years after in February 2008. Albanian separatists declared illegal independence of so called country. Pay attention. 1981. Albanian separatists demonstrate. 1989. fall of Berlin wall 1991. collapse of USSR 1991 civil war bursts out in Yugoslavia 1995. end of war 1996-98-99 Albanian terrorists organize frequent attacks demanding secession of Serbian land 1999. March-June NATO bombing 1999. June NATO enters Kosovo and Metohija 2008. February illegal declaration of independence followed by recognition of majority of NATO and developed western countries conclusion: 1)Only when it suited NATO Albanian terrorists were helped. 2) Nothing was spontaneous. It was all planned and with a longterm goal and that is the spreading of NATO. Once again thanks for an interview. People should remember.
Americans like myself decry the likes of the CIA and NATO, especially for actions like this, involving widespread destruction and murder. NATO is the Achilles heel of world peace...it is an instrument of the U.S., and during the past ten years the U.S. has been the most aggressive nation on earth. Yet we hear nothing---like one of the posters said, it was the horrific Columbine killings that dominated the news. Much as today, where our news is polluted by right-wing 'commentators' who in reality are 'chicken hawks'. We need a new World Organization for Peace.
I am happy that RT interview has provoked numerous comments. As for the situation in Kosovo and Metohija preeceding NATO aggression, I would like to quote here the letter of Mr. Dietmar Hartwig, Head of European Community (Union) Mission to Kosovo and Metohija (European Community Monitoring Mission - ECMM), addressed to Dr. Angela Merkel, German Chancelor, on Octpber 26, 2007. Mr. Dietmar Hartwig wrote: "Not in a single report between the end of November 1998 and evacuation (of international personel, z.j.) immediately preceding outburst of the war was there a mention of a bigger or systematic crime of Serbs against Albanians, nor even a mention of a single case of genocide or similar crime. During that period of high tensions there undoubtely was violence - violence encouraged from abroad, from outside of Kosovo, as well as a violence among grouppes and individuals who were trying to exploit the situation in order to achieve their personal objectives or to solve their personal problems by force. Just opposite to this, in my reports I had been repeatedly stressing that having regard growing attacs of UCK (KLA) against Serbian executive autorities their security and public order enforcment forces have shown distinct restraint and discipline. Such a stand has reflected clear and reaffirmed objective of serbian administration - to comply precisely with provisions of the Milosevic - Holbrook Agreement (of October 12th, l998, z.j.) thus not giving excuse to the international community for intervention." ..."Accordingly, until March 20th (1999, z.j.) there has been no any justification for a military intervention therefore all the mesures of the international community which had followed were iligitimate."
hi I'm an American, and contrary to what many people seem to believe, not all Americans are blindly following along behind our corrupted government. and don't think for an instant that NATO is as far as it goes. the money that is pulling the strings of earth is older than that, much older. we have all been pulled into a carefully woven con. think about this for a minute... how easy has it been for those who are in control of world interest rates and foreign currency exchange rates to manipulate media and specifically news media to everyone, not just the US, world wide. in America we were never told the truth about what really went down in Serbia. now consider the freedom that the internet can now provide for us all. no one can spot the flow of information now. my point is... before we all reopen the hate machine and push away from each other again, remember that we are all in this together.
I was being sarcastic, of course. Morbid even. Don't take me too plainly, it won't make any sense. What I meant was that the Russian armies finally, completly ended WWII by chasing down the Nazis as far as the other end of the continent. But, despite that bold enterprise of theirs, one that few others could or, in fact, would do - these many years later we, in Serbia, find ourselves economically enslaved. So, if the Russian wallet is even as half as thick as the armor on those tanks back then, please feel free to stop by again anytime. We could use any help we can get.
Dear Marzipan6, I agree that the former Yugoslav foreign minister is "hardly desiterested party". You may not be a minister but do you sugest that you claim to be "desiterested", objective party? Or USA government, or NATO? Whom do you think we should consider to be les interested - NATO who did what they did in/of Yugoslavia (Serbia), Serbian people and, why not, Yugoslav representatives, including former Yugoslav Foreign minister? Do you mind considering a small correction in your statement? You consider Yugoslav minister statement to be "radical accusation against more or less half of the world". I have cheked again the statement of Yugoslav Minister and with all fairness to you, I found no facts to support your oppinion. Is he not right that the NATO attack was without consent of UN Security Council, that the attack represented violation of the UN Charter and Helsinki OESCE Final document? Do you have different figures of dead and woulded civillians... Any way, even if there were any accusations in the forme Yugoslav minister's statement they could be related to at the most to 27 NATO member counties and in no way to "more or less half of the world". UN has 198 member countries. I am aware that the military, financial and propaganda potentials would show different proportions, but hardly in favour of justice and impartiality.
The Germans DID win WWII! Hitler and his Nazis would be very pleased with the world condition today. Germany leads a new 'European Union' as the major economic power. The Soviet Union has been destroyed and partitioned. Yugoslavia has been destroyed and partitioned. Eastern Europe is now dominated by NATO occupation and obediently collaborating in exchange for access to capital. All the greatest Nazi collaborators ie. Croats, Albanians, Bosnian Muslims, Finns, Estonians etc. are now hailed as heroes......
Dear Readers, Number One, the USA did help liberate Western Europe (D-Day and Anzio, Italy). Number Two, this article ignores Serbian/Yugoslavian attacks on Bosnians. What is the Russian position on Albanians and Bosnians? It seems Russia didn't care about those people. It ignores how Milosevic caused 'ethnic cleansing'. The US was actually late in intervening. The problem with the Moslems is very complicated because the USA used Iranian Fanatics and Afghan "Freedom Fighters" who are now "terrorists" to try to complicate life for the Soviet Union and the Red Army. The Moslems surprised Uncle Sam by then turning around and attacking the US. We need a President who understands Russian needs, and reverses all this. Remember "Lend-Lease", the Friendship between USA and the Soviet Union that helped destroy the evil Nazi Germany.
I know most observers blame the US for the NATO led war but it was not the US (Clinton) who initially wanted to bomb Serbia, it was Tony Blair (UK PM at the Time). He had the hardest line towards Serbia, he at one point was willing to send 50 thousand UK troops Serbia and Kosovo. He was quoted in saying "He promises that Nato will remove all Serb forces from Kosovo and lead all the refugees back home. Our determination is absolute". Mr Blair fuelled the racism idea and drew paraellels to the Nazis our media constanly showed camps full of muslims, it was a crusade for Blair (who is a quire religious now a catholic) he believed its was a crusade to help the displaced muslims in the region. As we know Mr Blair later on led Britian into a war based on Lies with Iraq.... i wounder who is one of te biggest criminals of our time , Hitler? Stalin? Blair??? Lets make it clear not all Brits supported the bombing, and not all Brits support Kosovo independence, I still think if Russia had showed its teeth abit more things would have been different, it showed recently NATO is not willing to confront Russia (Georgia conflict) on a military conflict level. My last point is Tadic, Independence was only claimed once he got elected the western media reported this before he won his election, because of his determination to get into the EU Serbia will never get Kosovo back, recentlly Argentina has made waves regarding the Falklands i can bet you WE the UK will use force if they try anything with or without US help maybe Serbia should take a lesson.
There are many of us in the UK who were appalled by the atrocities carried out by NATO, and their criminal KLA 'allies', against the Serbian people. It shall not be forgotten. Kosivo is Serbia!
Hmm, one more of typical serbian propaganda moments, serbs knows very well, what thay did in that time but as allways thay wanna change history in same way as thay allways do, Zivadin Jovanovic is pure fabricator of non-truth arguments, very funny coments from that person
NATO did not do the right thing by attacking Kosovo which led to the disintegration of Serbia . West intervened ostensibly to protect Kosovars from Serbian repression. Intervention complicated matters. Ironically, it is the poor Serbians who have become victims of repression. They have been sidelined in their own land If the current trend continues Serbian population in Kosovo would be wiped out. It's time for Russians to step in and give a helping hand Slavic brethren. KLA is terrorist organisation. Its aim was the break-up of Kosovo. Thanks to western backing they have attained their goal.
Serbia is an obstacle and USA(GB/NATO) are unleashed to remove the obstacle, just as simple as that. There were no crimes of such proportions as falsely presented by CNN/BBC and similar NOS propaganda houses. Shqips/Albans were just an instrument here and they were used to achieve goals which actually are not theirs but NOS goals. NOS promoters installed those fake goals and found convenient leaders to lead Alban nation into the war. Albans would never do such things because Albans was not self aware nation until recently. They were more like some national grupation with no clear goals and directions as a country (Albania). By the way Albans already have their country - Shqiperia (Albania). Croats, Slovenes just abused the situation, where Serbia is an obstacle and formed their own countries (finally). I have never heard about Croatia and Slovenia before, but for Serbia yes, ancient brave warriors and people with great history. Croats were on a side of fascistic Germany and the had their Ustashas who made terrible attrocities against Serbs. But they were never punished for that. Even their leaders were spared. Kosovo is Serbian land. Yugoslavia had their constitutional nations and Albans were not among them. So they have no right to separate province of Kosovo and Metochia and proclaim it for their own country. We have many similar situations all over the world. Kosovo is not special case under any circumstances.
As Michael Parenti put it:“Yugoslavia was the only country in Eastern Europe that would not dismantle its welfare state and public sector economy. It was the only one that did not beg for entry into NATO. It was - and what's left of it, still is - charting an independent course not in keeping with the New World Order.”

As the others here, I am grateful to RT's staff and any and all people for remembering this date, so very, very important, any way you look at it. Now, let me tell you about (or remind you of, as it were) another upcoming important date, a better one perhaps... 20.10.2009. is the 65th anniversary of the liberation of the Serbian (at the time, Yugoslavian) capitol of Belgrade, from the Nazi occupation during WWII, by the Soviet Red Army. Not to sound ungratefull, but considering what has happened during the last 20 years here, maybe they shouldn't have - they were the least of all evils. Or, maybe, in the near future, some similar process can occur...
