I wonder if NATO would not had send " peace keepers " to Russia during the Chechen and Georgian wars as they did with Serbia, if Russia did not have the power to lay waste to any country in this world. Guess Nukes are still needed.

Emm...CAN the russians really trust the americans, to cut their nuclear arsenals??? I dont think so. Why is both the U.S.A. and BRitain working on more and more deadly weapons?

Yes sure, nuclear arsenals are useless. We saw how useless they were in August 2008 when Georgia attacked and killed Russian peace keepers in South Ossetia and the whole West (NATO + EU + USA) did nothing to stop Russia. Not even a small economic sanctions. But this is not because of Russian nuclear arsenal (since it is useless anyway) but because of humanitarian/altruistic reasons - the West simply loves Russia.

the way that our and your nukes have become useless is that both our nuclear arsenals were meant as deterrents, knowing that if one was used it had a return address and the other party would respond in kind. but now with the collapse of soviets and the proliferation of nuclear material in Korea, china, India, Pakistan any rogue nation or person who has access to material can put a nuke in a suitcase and blow up any of our cities and we'd be pretty powerless to do anything more than guess at where to point return address. There is no longer any nuclear deterrent and we'll probably see a war within our lifetimes that uses substantial nuclear weaponry

Nuclear weapons can never be given up. Nations can pretend, but none that have them are serious about getting rid of them. The genie is out of the bottle and will never be put back. Nuclear weapons will be used once again in the future because humans always wind up using every kind of weapon ever developed, against other humans. Some slick office holder will once again unleash the genie and it could cause retaliations around the world that end the world as we know it. Some people are evil EXPERTS in the art of deception and destruction. Evil people make their way into the very highest offices of the world, where they can perform their deceptions and inflict destruction upon humanity. Many are very talented orators and project a "NICE GUY" image to gain control. Hitler was a very talented orator and the people just loved everything about him until his dark side was revealed. Then, it was too late. The world will be suckered once again soon.
