Some Eastern European politicians are accusing Obama of betraying America’s traditional partners, but he is well aware of the price of good relations with Russia.
That is what Andrey Kortunov, president of the New Eurasia Foundation, told RT.
The devil always hides in the details, Kortunov points out, and Russia still does not know the exact composition of the Obama plan. Nevertheless, he said, Obama’s decision will be welcomed by Moscow.
Kortunov says he is more concerned about conservatism on the Russian side.
"Russians always suspect Americans of not being sincere, but this time some unorthodox proposals are really coming from the US side,” concluded Kortunov.

“Bush administration had an ideological attachment to missile defense”President Obama has confirmed that the US intends to shelve its plans for a missile defense system in Europe. Daryl Kimball, executive director of the Arms Control Association, said this action comes “soon enough.” |

American political parties – a dying breedThe American people are nervous about the future, so they are becoming politically independent, argues journalist and former politician Brent Budowsky. |
I agree with Eric. Furthermore, those Polish and Czech politicians saying they have been left undefended by America are missing the point: The missile defence was supposed to protect the USA (and maybe bits of Western Europe) against missile attack from Iran. It would not defened Eastern European countries from anything or anyone. The defence of Poland, Czech Republic and the rest is handled by article 5 of the NATO Treaty and has nothing to do with missile defence. That some Republicans are saying Obama has "given in to Moscow without getting anything in return" seems to imply that they were lying when they said it was only for defence against Iran and nothing to do with Russia i.e. Putin was right all along. Anyway, there will be something in return: arms reduction talks.
The only people Obama may be disapointing is the Czech and Polish polititions that agreed to these missile defense stations installed in their countries for millions of dollars of rent . These countries rejected Bushes offers over and over untill finally Bush agreed to pay so much they agreed . The people in these countries did not want to build first strike targets in their countries . If my memory is correct the people were against these missile bases only the eastern european politicians wanted them . Another cheap victory for Obama and the people . A smart man we have here .

No one has been sold out. Europe should be plenty capable of defending itself with the super high taxes they collect from their citizens. Why should American tax payers foot the bill for Europe's defence? It is about time that European countries pay for their own defence.
