US girl trapped in Tskhinval during last year’s war between Russian and Georgian forces experienced a different sort of hostility when she attempted to “tell the truth” to western media.

“I just want to say that I was running from Georgian troops bombing our city, not Russians,” Amanda Kokoeva told Fox News in an interview shortly after the war. “I want to say thank you to the Russian troops who were helping us out.”

At this point, the anchorman who was interviewing Kokoeva announced a commercial break, cutting the 12-year-old girl off in mid-sentence.

Amanda Kokoeva’s controversial interview, which provoked a harsh complaint from the Russian authorities, quickly traveled around the world.

Kokoeva, who now resides in California, witnessed the beginning of the conflict with her own eyes and was among the first people to give an eyewitness account to western media. But it seems that her version of the events was not really welcomed.

“I understood that I was going against everything that the American and the Georgian people were saying: that it was the Russia’s’ fault that the Georgian conflict began. But my aunt told me, ‘Tell them all the truth.’ And I did,” Amanda said.

Kokoeva was born in South Ossetia, but moved to the US when she was six years old. Every summer she goes back to visit her relatives.

Her grandmother, Evgenia Bestayeva, says she is really proud of Amanda.

“She was not afraid to tell the truth about the conflict. She saw everything herself and wanted the world to know the truth,” she said.

On the night of August 7, 2008 Amanda, who was only 12 years old at the time, watched in horror as the war broke out. She spent the night in her uncle's basement. The following morning, they fled to North Ossetia and eventually to Moscow. However, not everyone was so lucky: many South Ossetians were killed by Georgian troops as they were trying to make their escape.

As Georgian tanks moved further into South Ossetia and the shelling continued, western media showed President Mikhail Saakashvili saying Russia had launched an attack on his country. Some stations even showed footage of alleged Russian shelling on Georgia when in fact it was the South Ossetian capital Tskhinval in flames caused by Georgian aggression.

“During the Georgia-South Ossetia conflict they were trying out the technologies of the future to further a media war, an information war of the 21st century,” Aleksey Mukhin, the head of centre for political information. “It is a so-called “war of different view points”. It is performed by using very sophisticated tools. It doesn’t require much money. It works with the help of technology.”

Russia says it has the proof that Tbilisi was the aggressor. According to Moscow, the supply of arms to Georgia is continuing and some believe the Caucasian country may be preparing for new aggression.

Deaths commemorated

Special events commemorating those who died during the assault have been held across South Ossetia.

Hundreds of people have gathered in the main square of Tskhinval to attend a commemoration ceremony. While the event might seem like a concert to the casual observer, the mood is somber.

Other ceremonies have included a service at Tskhinval’s main cathedral and private commemoration events held by dozens of families.

White balloons were released into the night sky of Tskhinval in memory of those who died during the 5-Day War.

If I summarise all the previous comments and believe what that innocent 12 years old girl say; I have difficulties understanding the Russian decisions' makers who do so much wish-full thinking about N-PiPO and meet a procession of former US criminal creeps Secretary of States in Moscow. Something does not add-up; Please, Explain ! As far as I see, absolutely nothing has changed from previous US administrations and we may even end-up regretting "crazy" George Bush. Sirs, There is an other way !!! Sorry Future Generations...Sincerely...Jean-Claude Meslin

I, long time ago live in a state where people always said-our leader dont know what is going on, and if he know he will change that!Wrong-he know the truth better than we do! This girl who tell a truth is just a voice from ground-they did know before that, what the truth is!I said this, to point: Usa (like the most of the west)is undemocratic regime with mafia in power witch inslave and manipulate their own citizens first and try to do the same with the rest of the world. The lies and excuses work same time ago but not any more!Theirs citizens cant do nothing about but the world can! A country who kill 25 millions people from 1945(in "peace time" in endless wars with false excuses ,fake moon landing( 100 of evidence),9/11(inside job-kill their own people-100 of proofs)is indeed a danger for the world peace! A state full of war ciminals...No wander why every state try to have nuclear weapons...Mark my words Usa: what ever you done in past(from genocide on indians) and present it will come to yours soil with intrest to pay! Majority of the free world in future will see you and your alike states in a finale battle till you are no more.I am 100% sure -all out war against Usa - MUST happend and it will happend....

Evidentally, you still don't understand "hard breaks" in the television business. If you come to Atlanta, I'll take you on a tour of the CBS 46 affiliate. Secondly, if you watch the video, the girl was being fed information from her aunt and it was her aunt that stormed off Fox News when Fox News asked them to stay through the break. The Aunt's english was extremely poor and given the situation, I don't think she understood what was happening. If you(Russia) really believes that Bush(USA) ordered this attack, you are either completely ignorant or just mis-formed. Putin set Saakashvili up and Saakshvili fell for it! If anything Bush and Putin were at the Olympics shaking hands and smiling. Finally, it is clearly evident that this girl would not be so happy in South Osetia because clearly South Ossetia doesn't have the infrastructure availble to support her AT&T I-Phone and her "High Speed" wireless laptop she was using in the TV studio, unless Putin magically upgraded all of South Ossetia to DS-3 architecture. Again, this girl and Aunt had nothing but hatred for the USA, which leads one to ask, WHY is the AUNT even here? Why would she even think about immigrating when she had the chance to immigrate to the motherland and join the "Nasthi's" is it?
