Under amended plans, the Patriot missile launchers, designed to shoot down planes and cruise missiles, are to be placed just 100 kilometers from the border with Russia’s Kaliningrad region.

When will you understand that those Patriots missiles have nothing to do with poles or anyone' security. It only concern money for the polish politician-prostitutes and for those who do not know how to build anything but weapons. Russia should forget about that START treaty; since there will never be any sincerity from the US side. She should boycot and let America continue to ridiculize herself and sunk in her own mediocrity. It will not take a long time before the US society wake up and clean the whole mess. I have witnessed the end of the Viet-Nam's war; when living in America and I know what that people can do when he really get mad at his leaders. Expose the facts and think positive; that is all which is requested for now. Sincerely...Jean-Claude Meslin

Yep, “It's a direct threat to Russia's national interests, because these Patriot missiles are just the first step…In the long term, the ground-based interceptor systems may appear.” What can be a greater threat to Russia’s interest than to have a neighbour, which it has repeatedly savaged through history, install missiles its border that are designed to shoot down planes and cruise missiles from Russia? Shockingly aggressive Polish arrogance, I say.

johnx January 21, 2010, 23:44 quote

@Marzipan6 Foreign powers throughout history have always tried to conquer Russia and Eurasia. Poland invaded and occupied Russia first in historical timeline, then Bolshevik terrorist organisations in the Pale of Settlement consisting of Ukraine and Poland overthrew the Tzarist government and then Lenin with his Latvian rifle army division overthrew the Kerensky government. In fact Latvians were predominant in the post revolutionary government. And as you should know because you don’t like real history which I pointed out before when Poland engaged in massacring ethnic German civilians in predominantly German territories hoping that Britain and France would intervene on there behalf with the secret agreement. When Polish forces were quickly overthrown and the Polish government fled the country and the Polish state which the Polish foreign minister conveyed to the Soviet Foreign minister ceased to exist as agreed in the M-R pact agreement in its sphere of influence and no buffer state between Germany and the USSR Soviet troops entered Eastern Poland. Is it not a Pole Zbignew Brzezinski who wrote a book and implemented policy of the dismantlement of the Russian state. Are NED (CIA) front organisations not operating in Poland and the Baltics sowing subversion in Russia and Kalingrad Obalist? And who supports terrorism in Russia and Eurasia?

Russian should keep the patroit missile defence system {for Poland} in context and not get overly excited or have a panic atack about it. This is not a big deal and really not of much consequence to anyone. Most all countries and their politicians need something to talk about and to impress their people. This is nothing more than a "feel good" thing for Poland so get over it.

Daud January 22, 2010, 08:45 quote

Russia must not take it easy the ridicules US approach to the Russian Federation security just next to it. This is quite obvious to all people of the world that this was/is the US who created and started the Cold War which according to them ended after the collapse of the USSR. However, now why they come the same mistake of while president JFK did in the 1960s placing US nuclear weapons (missiles) in Turkey aimed them to the Russians soil and in response the Russians placed their SS-4 nuclear missiles in Cuba brought a direct nuclear threat right under the US throat and nose. US must not also forget what happened to them in the Korean War and Vietnam War - they just got just shameless defeat. They created Terrorism in the 80s now they are paying for their one created mistake in Afghanistan and Pakistan. While the resistance in Afghanistan is getting stronger and stronger and the innocent people are killed by the NATO. I’m sorry if any human being sees the NATO actions in Afghanistan, they will come with this solution that the NATO “T” stands for Terrorism/Terrorist (Afghan people call them that). The NATO in particular the Americans must thank the Russians that Moscow has not yet started to support the Taliban fighters with sophisticated guided anti tank and anti aircraft missiles (only these two types of weapons needed to change the NATO objectives in Afghanistan and Pakistan to a Big Zero). If once, the Russians go out of patience and tolerance, they will easily turn Afghanistan to a super graveyard for the entire NATO especially for the American soldiers. The west must thank the Russians they have not yet turned in to hostile against the west, but in turn the Russians are allowing NATO support their military supplies through Russia. Russia to see the S-300 to Iran.

panic do you really believe that the Russians are like children who get all worked up for much to do about nothing? Do you smell little condescending tone of voice in your language? The Russians know one thing very clearly: the U.S imperial occupation of Europe since the end WWII is facing the greatest challenge from within Europe at this moment and keeping Russia as "the credible enemy" of Europe is central to the prolonging U.S military occupation of Europe and that this ridiculous and counterproductive placement of U.S Patriot Missiles 100Miles from the Russian border is stupid and Russia should take it seriously.

Kihnu January 22, 2010, 11:32 quote

Interesting that Russia considers NATO's move of missiles to Poland as a "threat"; however, she continue to facilitate NATO's aggression in Afghanistan. Doesn't Russia realize that once NATO stabilizes Afghanistan, they will put a tighter squeeze around Russia? Russia should do everything possible to ensure NATO's defeat in Afghanistan. NATO and the US are working behind the scene to pressure France into canceling their plans to sell the Mistral warship to Russia. France's cancelation of the sale should be an eye opener to the Russia that they can never trust NATO or the US. NATO and the USA wants to put a noose around Russia's neck, and the Russians are busy weaving the rope for them.

Kihnu Answer is simple - Russia likes money and NATO gives money. Sarah And Poland should take S-300 batteries in Kaliningrad seriously? Daud You seem to forgot who lost in Afghanistan before. johnx Give me some sources about polish massacres of Germans before war - but credible sources not some random sites.

A little bit more complicated than that I am glad to say. US and NATO fail in Afghanistan - Bad for Russia US and NATO burning resources endlessly, building more and more enemies - Ideal for Russia US and NATO winning in Afghanistan - bad for Russia Solution, just enough medication to keep them in a coma! The status quo option.

Johnx writes that “Foreign powers throughout history have always tried to conquer Russia and Eurasia.” Through history, foreign powers have always tried to conquer everyone, everywhere, but Russian aggression against Poland exceeds by far traffic in the opposite direction. The Tsarist empire reduced Poland to an oppressed and Russified province of Russia in the 19th Century, Communist Russia did the same for most of the 20th Century after attacking Poland in 1939, and post-Communist Russia’s ongoing unfriendliness to Poland indicates that Russia’s traditional underlying attitude towards that country have not changed.

Count Cash January 23, 2010, 08:44 quote

So now Poland should base its present politics on the Tsarist period! How out of touch the EU East Europeans are! They are clear to see; looking for absolutely anything to whip up ther populations into the usual Anti Russian frenzy, to justify their continuing aggression against Russia. But they had a good little teacher, didn't they!

Marzipan6 January 23, 2010, 12:43 quote

No -- Poland should (and does) base its policy in regard to Russia on a realistic appraisal of Russia's attitude towards Poland. If Russia wants to have friendly neighbours, all it needs to acting in a friendly way towards them consistently enough to where it convinces them that Russia has, indeed, changed its attitudes. Currently, hardly anyone is convinced.

That evil Russia, and that poor innocent victim Poland. It seems the roles are set in stone. Perhaps the Polish Soviet war of 1919-1921 is to be forgotten? Perhaps the fact that when Germany broke up Czechoslovakia and Poland took a piece as well its real character showed as well? Poor innocent victim Poland. The placement of these missiles clearly shows why Poland was a party to this scheme from the start. The suggestion that there are better facilities near Kaliningrad is a Joke... this was supposed to benefit Poland... putting the missiles in the most undeveloped part of the country so that US funds can be used to develop the region is standard practise amongst those who "accept" US Aide. Now we know where the ABM system will also go when the next US administration takes power and decides that with the new START treaty signed they can go back to their old plans of an ABM system in Europe... Good news for Kaliningrad of course because in the long term it will mean lots of military investment.

So Russia talks to the Poles about increasing bilateral trade, Putin issues concilatory tones, Lavrov offers to support Katyn rememberance - and the Polish response, lets get some missiles on their border. No I think it is clear to see that Polish politics has nothing related to the facts of today. In fact it is clear to see that the Polish aggression continues regardless of any normal friendly gestures from Russia. We should do well to remember the NATO promises, and how they evaporated, it is the same with the EU east europeans. We should have learned by now that they have an aggressive agenda towards Russia, and that appeasement is not going to work. It is time to beef up and admit that Poland at present cannot move away from its path of aggression towards Russia.

Washington will have nothing less that world domination Europe is gone "because of the economy and the FED toilet money something Europe cannot do. therefore link with Brasilia, India, Iran china, Venezuela Bolivia and any other nation to avoid war. war is the aim just like 1939..

There's a certain, almost touching, sort of Romantic masochism in the Polish mindset. Ever sandwiched between Catholicism and Judaism, Germany and Russia, Poland now neatly sets itself up as a priority target for nuclear obliteration: where Catherine II and Adolf Hitler have failed, Lech Kaczynski may succeed.

RT professionalism is not objective at all about USA/Polish-Patriot missile. 1) Patriot Mk II+ or III is not as good as even first generation Russian S300 system and now Russia is introducing S400, which is even way better than fifth S300 system. 2) Kaliningrad region in Russia is the most variety and largest weapon depot on the world. From nukes, Chem., and biological weapons to crusse and other missile systems capable to carry it whenever it is possible. 3) Poland and Russia has "havy history" and many reasons why only tactical-defense missile system (like Patriot II+ or III, far away from perfect) is installed in Poland, before new START pact will be signed. Tell me does anybody need more reasons why Patriot system is installed in Poland today ...?

Poland, Georgia and all other countries which were "imposed democracy" after the fall of the Soviet Union, including my Yugoslavia, are like "ticks on a dog's tail, competing to be better to ring." America and its allies were the one who helped "the Democrats" to come to power, then "Democrats" are doing everything to prove that their sponsors not just made a mistake choosing them. That is why they are doing everything possible to satisfy "Big Brother", and even more to maintain them in power. In the case of Poland it is certainly the case. Bearing in mind that the "Patriot II or Mk III is not as good as even first generation Russian S300 system"there is a real possibility that the Polish authorities estimated that for something like that could be praised by big brother. The truth is that they do not have a clean conscience towards the Russians.
