An investigation by experts from the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom and Sweden has concluded that the sinking of a South Korean naval ship in March was caused by a North Korean torpedo.

The investigation uncovered part of the torpedo on the sea floor that matched North Korean design and lettering that has appeared on previous North Korean torpedoes collected by South Korea.

The March 26 attack near the North and South Korean border killed 46 South Korean sailors. North Korea is claiming no involvement and is threatening South Korea with war if they retaliate.

This is a familiar pattern with the North Koreans,” said Denny Roy, a Northeast Asia Security Expert at the East West Center in Honolulu. It is likely there will be another round of United Nations Security Council resolutions condemning North Korea which will continue to solidify “the cold war we now find ourselves in,” said Roy.

Roy said the stability in the situation is surprisingly strong, which is likely to prevent all out war but has emboldened North Korea to feel “they have a free hand to carry out acts like this.”

The United States may toughen their defense in the region, “beefing up resources” to aid South Korea in preventing similar events in the future. The two nations, South Korea and the US may also engage in a joint military exercise to send a clear message aimed at North Korea.

The US is even considering adding North Korea back to the list of states that sponsor terrorism, said Roy.

The blast from the torpedo was allegedly strong enough to blow the S.Korean ship in half but not strong enough to prevent it from remaining intact and marked with Korean letters, Six weeks to investigate with so much obvious evidence around? The remains are still intact and rusted after such a short period. Meanwhile the PM of Japan is forced to humiliate himself in Okinawa after being unable to remove an American military base-despite the wishes of the population and his pre-election promise to do so. What did the international community do when it was revealed that the US had nuclear weapons stored in Okinawa in violation of their treaties. Curious timing indeed. In the past any violation of N. Korean territorial waters was met with aggressive, overt actions. The Koreans are usually boastful and proud of their preceived military victories. Why would they deny responsibility at this time? The American foreign policy has not changed with Obama. Still attempting to manipulate people with fear. SOS Hillary warns of consequences for illegal military actions. Yet the world waits for consequences for the illegal invasion of Iraq, Afghanistan and the violation of Pakistan's territory to kill insurgents and a lot of innocent civilians. The so-called experts are the same that convinced public opinion that Iraq had WMDs. The UN was the organization that invaded the Korean peninsula under the direction of the US and Western client states. It was at the UN the Colin Powell made his impassioned and largely discredited case for Iraqi violations of NPT and UN sanctions. Of course Iran has to be punished because we believe that they intend to build nuclear weapons. Perhaps Israel, India and Pakistan might be a more pressing issue for non proliferation purposes. Then there is the tale of the little boy who cried wolf, apparently too many times to maintain credibility. After a history of lies, deceit and aggression, it is hard to believe anything that the United States has to say.

Jim, I agree. If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, waddles like a duck, flies like a duck, and swims like a duck, in all probability, it is definitely a "False Flag" incident by the Eagle in order to eat the honey. You and I can be friends.

I am always sceptical about this type of isolated incident. Finding parts of a North Korean torpedo does not in itself prove that the torpedo was fired by North Korea. Also, as tensions are at a critically high level in the area is it not possible the torpedo (if it did come from by a North Korean sub / vessel) was fired without proper authority to engage? There is even the possibility (albeit slight) of a good old fashioned 'false flag' attack - which would give the US / Japan / any other interested party an excuse to pursue tougher sanctions and isolate the country still further. As for the US putting North Korea on the list of states sponsoring terrorism..........well I'll let you make your own mind up about that one.
