Yes you got it, the child understood torture was wrong, the American didn't. Because to the American administration supported by NATO and the EU. Torture, is as American as apple pie and accepted by the throatful, straight down the eager smaller EU gagging countries throats. A bit like waterboarding; but hey, their used to it! Or at least giving it out! But it's nothing new, the Americans have always engaged in torture, it is just Bush who was stupid enough to break the rule, and be honest about what he was doing. The past post holders just did it quietly, with the smiling human rights Hollywood act. It's not just Bush, It's not just Rice, torture is institutionally systematic within the American government and has been for some considerable time. So be on your guard, otherwise your family will be 'enjoying' such great American hospitality in an orange suit, with accompanying torture, in an American camp near you soon.

I think Ms. Rice did answer the question, she said Bush didn't authorize anything illegal. I can't imagine her getting into specifics with a child, can you? How could anyone expect any elaboration on the topic with fourth grade children who are obviously swayed in their thinking by the adults in their lives - in some cases - very misinformed adults. I like this web site very much. I have found it to be very interesting and informative. I don't always agree with everything I have found on here, but I still enjoy reading alternative opinions and perspectives. Keep up the good work!! .

I applaud the boy's question, and I think Ms. Rice answer was honest. Who of us would not used extraordinary techniques to avoid future "torturous" attacks on the U.S? Was not the hijacking of innocent people and plowing them into the World Trade Center and Pentagon torturous? If Ms. Rice had time to prepare her answer, she might have said, "We did what we had to do under the circumstances of attack and uncertainty. We needed to know at all costs how to protect our people. Perhaps now we have learned more effective methods of interrogation. We Americans do not want to torture, but we do not want to be tortured either

We are very proud of our sons, Misha and Sammy. We appreciate the freedom we have in our democracy to question our leaders, like Secretary Rice. By the way, both of our sons were born in Silver Spring, Maryland.

We should not jump to conclusion about Secretary Rice and the heirarchy of the Bush administration. So far there has been no trial to vendicate any of them. So, you cannot assume that they are all guilty of war crimes just because they have not gotten their day in court. Give them a break and let justice prevail.
