ROAR: Russian Opinion and Analytics Review, Mar. 30

This Monday ROAR offers various opinions on one of the key international problems of the day: cooperation in Afghanistan, and presents an academic’s view of the future of global international relations.

As with all problems the answer lies within the question. The age-old problem for "foreigners" concerning Afghanistan is that the spirit of independence of the various nationalities there is that although disparate they are as one people. I am reminded of China or Russia each with a multi-national population which are yet one. Moreover attempts to conquer or subjugate Afghanis going back to Alexander the Great then Ghengis Khan and recently in terms of Afghanistan's history those of England and Russia have all failed. The problem there which baffles all outsiders is the power of superstition in the form of "God-worship" and the power of a common herb from which narcotics used in the World's medicines come - in thr form of "Poppy-worship" from both of which peoples' incomes come.
