Less than a month after he announced that he was “testing the waters,” Congressman Ron Paul has formally announced that he will be vying for the position of commander and chief of the United States in the 2012 election.

Speaking on ABC’s "Good Morning America" from New Hampshire on Friday, the 75-year-old medical doctor revealed that he’ll be running for the GOP nomination in next year’s ballot, marking the third time that Libertarian icon has tossed his proverbial hat in the presidential race. Paul first ran as a Libertarian in the 1988 election that yielded the administration of George H. W. Bush.

“Time has come around to the point where the people are agreeing with much of what I've been saying for 30 years,” Paul said to "Good Morning America" early Friday.

“So," added Paul, "I think the time is right."

In 2007, Paul declared his candidacy for the 2008 Republican nomination, though despite strong grassroots support and a large student following, Paul withdrew his bid five months before the election, leaving John McCain as the GOP forerunner.

Upon announcing the formation of an exploratory committee recently, Paul said, “I believe there are literally millions of more people now concerned about the very things I talked about four years ago . . . The excessive spending, the entitlement system, the foreign policy, as well as the monetary system.”

Among some of Paul’s most stressed platform issues are the abolishing of the Federal Reserve and the IRS and the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq and Afghanistan.

As an obstetrician, Paul has delivered thousands of babies and says he is against abortion, but straying from the Republican norm, does not favor Federal regulation of it. During Fox News’ GOP debate this month, Paul also rehashed his support for the decriminalization of drugs and the legalization of prostitution.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Paul has served in Congress for nearly 30 years.

His announcement comes only one day after former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich announced that he would also be seeking the Republican nomination.

And while Paul’s last two campaigns had him labeled as a fringe candidate by many, some experts say that the times have certainly changed. “More people are seeing that Ron Paul is not a nut,” says Brian Doherty of Reason magazine. Doherty says that the “wildly eccentric”and “crazy” ideals that Paul held true during past campaigns are now “widely seen to be correct.”

Given its current state, America’s chance of securing a viable third-party candidate might be the highest ever. “We don’t really have a true democracy in our country, and more and more people are becoming frustrated with the choices they’re given,” says Bytestyle.tv contributor Shelly Roche. Doherty agrees, noting that “we’re seeing some reason to see so” that Paul’s platform is now more popular with the mainstream than ever.

Workers in trouble: US middle class disappearing

The US was once home to the picture-perfect American dream. A house, a car, and a job symbolized the middle class as the core of a prosperous country. Yet for an increasing amount of Americans some or all of these are now out of reach.

Congress strikes down body scanners

As outrage continues over body imagining scanners used by the TSA, a new legislation would cut off funding of the technology that has raised eyebrows across America since they began being installed throughout US airports in 2010.

This site is spreading PROPAGANDA AND LIES about RON PAUL.
EXAMPLE 1:
"Paul also rehashed his support for the decriminalization of drugs and the legalization of prostitution."
REFUTE: Ron Paul is not for legalization of drugs or prostitutes, he is FOR STATES RIGHTS to choose if they want to legalize speficic drugs or even prostitution. RON PAUL does not support a mandated law from the federal government his if for states right to choose. This is an outright LIE and propaganda propagated by mass media news outlets.
EXAMPLE 2:
"And while Paul’s last two campaigns had him labeled as a fringe candidate by many, some experts say that the times have certainly changed. “More people are seeing that Ron Paul is not a nut,” says Brian Doherty of Reason magazine. Doherty says that the “wildly eccentric”and “crazy” ideals that Paul held true during past campaigns are now “widely seen to be correct.”"
REFUTE: AND WHO EXACTLY LABLED HIM A FRINGE CANDIDATE  BESIDES THE MASS MEDIA THAT CONTROLS AND MANIPULATES THE NEWS FOR THERE OWN AGENDA?
BY PURPOSLY SPREADING LIES, MISREPRESENTATIONS, AND BLATENT ATTEMPTS TO MARGINALIZE SOMEONE THAT IS WIDELY POPULAR IN THE UNITED STATES.

I just got back from a meetings with over 100 activists, and there are meetings going on by volunteers in every state of the country 8 months before the primary election, can any other candidate say this? HELL NO they can't. RON has a army this time, focused on utilizing its skills and learned lessons from last time around and we WILL NOT let the mass media win with there propaganda campaigns to marginalize paul.

Wake up AMERICA!

May God Bless You congressman Ron Paul. The American people are so sick of war. The old guard of the GWB wing of the Trotskyite marxists whom own the U.S. media still work in favor of the New hope and changey guard of Barack Obommmba. Same RINO policies, different colored party label that was the change. Red to Blue was the only change other than 2 more undeclared wars by the Nobel Peace Prize winning president, Obomba. All GWB policies renewed under Obama as well as injecting steroids toward average citizen surveillance. America is anything , but the land of the free and home of the brave.
