The chocolate heart of the Russian capital

Red October – or Krasny Oktyabr in Russian – these two words strike a chord in virtually every Russian’s heart. Those sentiments have nothing to do with the country’s revolutionary past, though. It’s all about chocolate!

What's in a name… of a street?

Has the time come for Russia to rid itself of its socialist baggage? The debate's heating up as many streets across the country, and in Moscow in particular, still bear the names of famed Communist leaders.

I've often found Russia to be a steadying influence in the world. If they see something wrong they say so. That's good. NATO needs as much advice as it can get so we should all work together and we can make the world a safer and more pleasant place to live in for the short time we have here. We can set good examples and maybe the more wild types in the world can be persuaded to copy these. Pooling our knowledge can bring excellent results. Forget politicians and the stuff that sells newspapers we have it in our power here and now.

Having Russia in NATO would be great. We need another powerful country that can assist the USA in policing the world. This would be good for the whole world to have Russia assisting us.

Russia should definitely continue working with NATO closely, but it would be a mistake to join them. It would legitimize and artificially prolong the life of an organization that is powerful but has questionable reasons to continue existing in this day and age.

Russia will join NATO when she is crushed by NATO.

NATO was a military alliance whose purpose was never the defense of its members. Purportedly defending Western Europe, Greece and Turkey against a bogus attack by the Soviet Union, the Western powers were never able to support their contentions with reliable data or information that any NATO member was ever threatened by any power. The real post-WWII defense organization was the Warsaw pact that was formed to defend Eastern Europe and Russia against a possible attack by NATO under the leadership of the good old USA.

NATO was created to trap the member countries under the tutelage of the United States. So is it, that before the Eastern European nations were allowed to join the European Union, they had to be handcuffed by membership to NATO. Throughout the whole span of the Cold War, NATO never experienced any threat to any of its members by any power, particularly the Warsaw alliance. NATO's purpose was to serve as an instrument of American imperialism and to act against any third country that made an attempt to develop economically and industrially with the help of the Soviet Union. It has been an aggressive organisation through its life. To this day, NATO members are forced to track the US line in adventurous and murderous acts in many parts of the world. There is not an instance of NATO defending itself. It has always been that the Soviet Union had to counter the incessant threats presented by NATO under silly and shameless guises. So, how can NATO and Russia work together? They can't. They don't mix. Russia has proven itself to be one of the major pillars of the development of a peaceful world. NATO has not, and in the present form, cannot relinquish its predatory nature. Russia has joined the community of civilized nations who have finally adopted a new paradigm for global relationships: peace and harmony. Until and unless NATO joins this movement of nations working for the construction of the 21st century, there will be no joining forces with NATO. Against who? Can anybody tell me? NATO is an obsolete organization, unwelcome by the world at large, and its only salvation resides in its demise.

Prior to 1950 the British Policed the world, now the US wants to do the same thing. The US wants the same as the British, French, and Germans, had in the past.....an Empire, but in place of the word "conqeur" the politically correct word "policing" is used, however by military and politically engineering the US plans to achieve the same ends. For Russia to join NATO would be a drastic error

Russia and NATO should continue cooperation and Russia WILL eventually join once the Baltic states and certain Eastern EU countries are assured of Russian intentions. Islamic Extremism is THE THREAT of the 21st century. Certain people in Russia have to get over the cold war. WE ALL NEED EACH OTHER just as we did durring WWII. Stop whining about American Imperializm and realize everytime Russia sells nuke tech to these groups it endangers us all. The U.S. needs to do more too by not arming regimes that latter turn on us do to extremism. This is done often over oil. The U.S., NATO, and Russia need each other now more than ever. Split Infinity

The change required for Russia, or other ex-Soviet countries to join NATO simply cannot be met. The cost of bringing military equipment up to NATO standards, and the cultural differences between the Russian, and Western Armies could only be accomplished with multi-generational change. The future will be an EU military alliance, with English-speaking countries going their own way.

I think Russia is well capable of defending itself and her people without the help of NATO....NAto did not do a whole lot to help the prople of srebrenecia when they were being butchered and dutch UN troops stood idly by.Russia proved itself to be a better protecter of people when they dismantled georgian agressors in a matter of hours..BRAVO
