There have always been two dimensions to this missile shield. The first is the money angle. This is keeping the US defence contractors busy on US tax dollars. The second is a trojan horse, to locate missiles close to Russia and strategically weaken it. As was stated, in respect to Iran, the shield is a system that doesn't work, against a threat that doesn't exists, for people who don't want it. The US is far more likely to face another set of terrorist attacks, than it is ever likely to see missiles flying at it from other nations. The current military political strategy is state terrorism and subversion. This is the soft power approach of the US. Don't think its adversaries, aren't doing the same in response. Of course there is a review, to balance, keeping the contractors happy and paid, making sure that there isn't a scandal of billions spent for an unuseable system, making sure that a sytem can be advanced to weaken Russia. These are the things being traded off. We will just have to see the outcome. As has always been stated, the feesibility of the system is the lynchpin. Not for its defensive merrit, but rather its financial implications and accountability. The US want a system that they can threaten Russia with, that doesn't represent an electoral liability.

What is the point of listening this US mantra ? "It is turned against Iran not Russia" What is the PURPOSE of listening again and again US officials parroting that NONSENSE ?! I do it just to give a Russian perspective and try to improve my English. Simple advice either learn Russian or get your rants translated and put them on a Russian forum, I can give you the links if you wish, because I assure you it would give me a great laugh to watch 1980s concepts unleashed on modern Russians today. Ever since the Soviet collapse, the Pentagon has been striving for nuclear primacy, that is the capability of launching a 1st strike and surviving the Russian response. Degradation of Soviet/Russian early warning capabilities, and the very infrequent rate of SSBN (missile submarines) patrols means that the US could theoretically launch a surprise attack and catch most of the Russian missiles on the ground (or subs in harbor). A workable ABM system that could severely blunt the Russian retaliatory strike may be able to limit the number of warheads striking US targets to a level that the US strategic planners may consider "acceptable losses". There are plenty of cold-blooded folks in the US strategic planning community that would gladly lose a dozen US cities in exchange for exterminating Russia as a nation. Before you say "so what, the US would never do such a thing", ask yourself if the US would ever accept such a situation in reverse? Were the Russians to have such a theoretical 1st strike capability, the US leadership would be in crisis mode and mass-hysteria would result, Certainly no-one would be prepared to rely on Russia's' word that they would never resort to such an outrageous crime. What therefore, makes you think the Russians will be prepared to look down the barrel of a loaded gun?

How can you accuse Russian news as lying when news media is completely controlled in the US. I live in the US and I have lived in Russia and can honestly tell you I was more free in Russia. Here in the US freedom is simply a word americans run around repeating but none of them even understand its meaning. I live it what is considered a "safe" place here in the US and witness crime every night, while I was in Russia I lived in flat in the city of Yoshkar-Ola and spent many a night on the balcony and saw no crime. Iran is fully entitled to engage in full uranium fuel cycle as per the NPT treaty, including low enrichment. The IAEA has consistently indicated that Iran is in full compliance with its safeguard obligations, ie no diversion of nuclear materials. US and Israeli paranoia is not a reason for Iran to lose her rights to nuclear energy self-sufficiency. Under the Shah, the West was more than happy to sign contracts for provision of nuclear power stations, and to discuss the provision of uranium enrichment facilities, but now that Iran is governed by the Mullahs, the West is suddenly concerned about "proliferation" issues. This points to US duplicity and self-serving realpolitic, just part of the wider US policy of containment, strangulation and destabilization of the Islamic republic. You consider the commercial sale of agricultural commodities to be an act of good-will, and that the Russians should be grateful? This was a straight-forward commercial deal, not some altruistic act of charity, and it was pressure from US farmers that kept the hands of the politicians off the deals, not any sense of fair-play on the part of Washington.

I dont agree with this title at all..If a country got character(human face)and promote peace,harmony for a common wealth,respect others,only act in self defense, etc -will be a less likely a nuclear target from other states. Some (west)European states are known for waging many wars in Africa and Middle East in past(as today too) - Russia do not fit theirs profile at all and only nuclear threat for Russia can come from USA and England. Something else is going on here..With Russia on joint ABM NATO countries will be 99% safe - without Russia they will be left alone to face music for past and present.In the same time Russia will become more likely target from other states too.Some cooperation will come but not a full ABMS.Once more I don't agree...
