At least Obama is not taking a obvious course of antagonizing Russia , Like the last two american Bozos . Clinton bombing Yugoslavia had about the same effect as if NATO had bombed Russia . Bush never really did anything accept scare Russia more , by sabotaging the Yugoslavia peace agreements . In my mind forgetting about missile defence in Czech and poland is a good move , It relaxes the Polish , Czech and Russian people a little . I know Bush claimed The missile defence shield was for Iranian missiles . And I know the Iranians want nuclaer electricity . But evreybody doesn't always tell the complete truth all the time either . If I remember weapons of mas destruction were in Iraq and Iran doen't have homosexuals . I think Obama made a smart move here .

I think this time of US announcement very clever. So, later US can push Russia harder to abandon nuclear warheads. This is really something which Russia cannot afford to do since US can maintain world superpower but not Russia without nuclear warheads. Russia really have to develop the technology at the same level as US. So, in order US to force Russia reduce nuces, missle defence system is a small pie to give up. Political decision is always continuous, no matter who is in charge at the moment. This time, Russia could reduce the size as which Russia can allow first, then force US to give up the plan to set up the missle system in East Europe. Yet, US had done before Russia and this is clever move by US from my view point.

He made a smart move out of sheer necessity. US just cannot continue with the pressure points against it on all sides. In Eastern Europe, while their leaders are still putting on a brave face, populace is less then convinced. Economy, driven by the banking expansion, credits to consumers and govenments alike, has come to an abrupt halt. The brave faces do not hide the fear of the future, as the money will be turning towards REAL things, from energy and mines, to industial capacities in countries that are either a good future market, or close to future markets. Europe has only Russia as the future market, and accross Russia, it is a vast Asian market. Obama had to let Europe go, it is as simple as that. Europe will make economic decisions to suit their interests, or if there are intrasigent states, each country will go on its own. Germany is fed up, and Sarkozy is waking up from its trans-Atlantic honey-moon (pretending that it did not happen). Ohers are in many ways dependent on the Germany's exporting engine, as they contribute to its humming. So, if Germany wants East, so will the others. If Poland and Baltics choose to stand in the way, not very good things will happen to their economies. Far to the East, in Japan, similar story. The economic system that collapsed already nearly two decades ago was on a life support. Now, new Government wants to integrate better with the Continent, and regulate relationships with Russia. Obama needs many more smart moves, especially getting out of wars, occupations, and stop funding thousands of self-serving NGO-s littering the globe, unless they are in a trully humanitarian mission. That would save money, get respect from far and wide, and allow US to retrench.
