I think it is tragic. It would be tragic for any couple to dissolve a marriage after being together for so long and experiencing so much of life with each other. This would have to be a painful thing for everyone concerned, and especially for their kids. I can't imagine how awful it would be. As far as there being another woman......No one really knows, I guess, except the woman and Mel, if he is being unfaithful to his wife. One thing is for sure... no marriage is going to work unless both people involved want it to work. They have to want it to work. They are the ones who make the choice .... no one else can do it for them. So, it's a very sad thing to see something that must have been very special just be given up on and allowed to fall apart. Mel Gibson is an alcoholic. The fact that his wife put up with it for so long is probably due to the children. Living with a person with an addiction disease is not pleasant for the addictive person nor the spouse. Since Mel and his wife separated two years ago, when his drinking became obsessive and he was arrested, shouting slurs that were obviously due to the anger he held in when certain individuals protested his desire to create a film, scripture based on the Passion of the Christ, forcing him to alter the film, he began a downward spiral giving into his disease. He has hit bottom. 28 years of marriage is a long, long time. Mel is suffering over this decision.

I agree with Job comment. How hard is it. Have we all not crossed the line? Look he is great. no doubt. I have so much respect for this man. 28 years come on. he's a prodigee! I have always respected him; it must be so hard. and now it being blabbed out all ;over. what must his kids feel. and Mel himself. His wife will??always be taken care of. Mel I pray for you. I experience the same thing you did in my divorce but after all they did to me Iam still here. This is not about divorce or money this is about destroying a Christian. The reason they want to destroy you is because you are a good man and you love jesus. Keep the faith and know that evetually it will triumph. I love you and pray for you. Ha...I thought he was a "Christian".....I guess he never read the part that reads "Thou shall not commit adultery...." He is just another con like everyone else. I feel sorry for his wife and children; they will be the ones to suffer for his selfishness. And yes, adultery is selfish. One day Mel will face God & have to account for his actions. This man is brilliant, talented, and has exhibited, 'heart', humor, sensitivity and excellence in every role that he has portrayed or in which he has prodcuced. He has been so conscientious in his desire to provide his fans with the quality of his workmanship in researching the most minute details of the character he is protraying or for those actors for whom he has cast in his productions, he almost becomes as close as is possible to the character himself for the sake of a realistic and enjoyable performance. This man has given so much to the entertainment industry. Of course, he is still only human and, like all of us, is subject to making mistakes in his life including bad judgment or poor choices at times, but that is no excuse to try to crucify this wonderful example of humanity. He is a child of God and, yes has made his share of mistakes; but who among us has not done so. Why does the general public feel they have the righ to cast stones; there is not one of us who is perfect and mistake free. Of course his wife has endured a lot throughout their 28 years together due to her love for him and their children, and Mel calls her a saint; however, the reasons for their dissolution of their marriage is their business, and should be dealt with by the two of them - not all of society. I will keep you and your family and your future endeavors in my prayers and hope that you will emerge victorious in your battle with your demons. May God help to guide you down the best path.

I am so saddened by this. There is no call for this, especially after all these years together. If people would just do right by God and totally let Him lead their lives this kind of thing CAN be avoided. This comment is directed towards Janet Fife-Yeomans, Holly Byrnes and Carly Crawford, apparent reporters, who wrote the article April 15 2009 entitled "Wild Gibson Loses Wife". Paragraph 2 "his $US1 billion fortune." Paragraph 4 "her husband's wealth"; paragraph 5 "her husband's empire". They are married. The assets belong to BOTH. They made a contract when they married and everything belongs to BOTH. They both worked together as a team to make all of this happen. He couldnt have done it without her no more than she could have done it without him. Without his wife to keep the households running, the children fed and clothed and a loving home to return to, he would no way have been able to lead the life he has lead. He couldnt have done it without her (e.g. Heath Ledger). Therefore, it is THEIR billion dollar fortune, THEIR wealth, THEIR empire. Get it? Until the day you women go through divorce yourselves, and I dont wish it upon you, you likely wont..........................get it.

I lost respect for the person Mel Gibson turned out to be. The grass is never greener the other side of the fence. It is too bad, at his age, that he threw a lifetime of love away for a newly acquired one of lust. It confuses the love and respect his children have for him, and opens up new issues the children will have to learn to deal with concerning their father. I feel sorry for Mel because he threw away the greatest gift a man could ever have .... unconditional love. And I feel bad for his family who will have to deal with all the pain he has caused them. It may seem easier to completely walk away from his wife - but that is not always the case. NOW is the time for him to seek counseling, and stay in it long enough to work through his "midlife" crisis , and decide ultimately just what kind of man he chooses to be for the second half of his life . That is the person he will have to live with.

Unless you have gone thru a divorce , you cannot understand how hard is to forgive the one who cheated.But someday after all the bitterness is gone you have to forgive to move on.
