I am a black woman and single. I know about this topic. What the journalist has failed to fully explore is the fact more than 2m black men are in the U.S prison system. This is key to the destruction of the black families in the United States. This is not true for black African women in Africa and is less acute among black immigrant women in the United States. This gender imbalance needs serious sociological examination. Similar phenomenon had been noted in the Soviet Union decades after the end of WWII. I recommend people to watch Russian films such as Moscow Doesn’t’ Believe in Tears, the Thief and other Soviet era films about the social dynamics of gender imbalances in the Soviet Union due to the fact millions of Soviet Men were killed in WWII. In the United States, journalists and pundits do not use often sociological lenses to examine social problems but instead they often use lifestyle lenses. This story is no different. I also have nothing against interracial love but there is nothing wrong with black women seeking black men.

While there are 2 Million Black Men in US Prisons? There are numbers everywhere the last numbers I have seen just over 850,00+ but over 750,000+ are in or have graduated from College (2 or 4 year degree). I can just speak for myself. I am not weird, I enjoy things most men regardless of color enjoy (Cars, Sports, Video Games, Traveling, Sex, Women) not in that order of course or maybe it is? Does this put me out of the Mainstream? I don't think so, it puts me squarely in the middle of American Social Environment. I would venture to say that most Black Women suffer from the same delusional attitudes that many other American Women suffer from, it just seem to impact them more. Like White and Latina women in America many demand social equals. Which is fine until you come up to the fact that fewer men are going to college. So while many women having spent 4-6 years in school, men feeling increasingly less pressure the need to go to school unless they wanted some white collar office job, are spending those 4-6 years in the workforce. Then women wanting to attain Material Success often delay serious relationships in their best years for Reproduction and Sexual Appeal (18-28) instead spending their free time pursuing "Bad Boys/Thugs" because they aren't looking to get married, so Mr. Right Now serves that niche of filling the need for companionship and sexual fulfillment. Attitudes like this has given birth to a nation full of not just Black Women over 30 often times with a child, but also White and Brown (Latino) women in the same boat. Combine that with unfair divorce court practices which make many men reluctant to get married when co-habitation is becoming much more attractive, you have many women between 30-45 that have never been married. Obesity is also a problem with Black Women, though you found a couple of fairly thin women to use as an example in this story.

Interesting indeed, as a black male senior network engineer the only black women I have come across have no sense of history otther than the last Oprah Winfrey show they watched. No sense of how the world really works and even less knowledge of how there own country works or even the ability to find it on a globe.

I have had greater success with European women as well, as I am accepted as just an American, never am I identified as an "African-American" that's an American Neo-Liberal creation. Not being a female, I am only conjecturing what a lady is looking for in a man. I suppose they want a man who is mature and responsible enough to sustain a life-long loving relationship, provide for the family, assist in the maintenance of the household, and help raise the children. It's been pointed out that 2 million Black men are incarcerated in the US. If hypothetically, the incarcerated Black men were released from prison, how many of them are capable, or even want such a relationship with a woman that I described in the first paragraph? These men are in prison because they could not conduct themselves within the confines of social norms. I doubt that the majority of these prisoners would make good husbands. The woman's liberation movement over the past four decades has contributed to men's lack of interest in marriage, and has opened up tremendous opportunities for irresponsible men. Guys know that some women can make their lives a nightmare once they get married, and they would rather play the field and sow their seeds to the wind. During previous generations such behavior was a social taboo, especially a young lady getting knocked up - but these social restrains have been discarded and the field is wide open for all guys to have their "fun" with the ladies. In conclusion, I would like to say that the ladies themselves are at fault for being without mates. You ladies wanted your "freedom" to flaunt yourselves in front of men as some sort of sex objects, and that is the way men now treat you. Men seldom marry women who they view as sex objects - use and discard.

Katrina, I sense such anger in your post that I am afraid that any I response I give you will drive you further into "female rage". But, being a chivalrous white male, I will try to be gentle in my response. I agree, that white males commit more egregious financial crimes against society than black males , and that these perpetrators seldom answer for their crimes. However, these crimes do not impact the ratio of males versus females, as do the street crimes committed by Black males.

As black men are incarcerated by the hundreds of thousands, and the U.S industry went to China, the white American men are turning mercenarism and systemic corporate fraud. I am a black woman and I'm also single. Unlike many black women I am not exclusive to just dating and or marrying black men. I gave up the tall, dark and handsome black man fantasy years ago while attending university. The black men I encountered were either already fathers or seemed to only date white or light skinned Hispanic women. I first saw this news story on a black owned blog and I expected the worst since the blog's headline was not too favorable but after watching the segment all I can say is THANK YOU to the reporter. I watched the segment with an open mind and even though I did not learn anything new I'm just happy more people and even people from another continent can see what black women in America are going through. Maybe it will open the eyes of white men and let them know there are some single, educated and independent black women available. I am one of them.

Vanessa, All women today have a difficult time finding suitable men to marry, and if they do marry, the chances of divorce are quite high, because of a decline in personal commitments to civility in our societies. The current American "culture" is decaying the family structure not only in the US, but also in other countries foolish enough to embrace it. The Islamic world recognized the threat posed by this American "culture" and is fighting against it. The American "culture" strips a person of self-respect and self-restraint. The individual is brainwashed to behave in a manner that brings instant gratification be it in personal or professional relationships. If a marriage has difficulties - get a divorce, or kill the family. If a person is unfulfilled at a job - kill the coworkers. A few days ago a professor at the University of Alabama in the US, shot three other professors to death because the university decided not to give her tenure. There are recent instances in the US where men kill their wives and their own small children. The Americans have lost all ability to love one another and love their fellow human beings. No wonder, the American people cheered and cheered as their beloved Bush invaded defenseless Afghanistan and Iraq slaughtering hundreds of thousands and destroying the nations. The American "culture", with its over-emphasizes on sexuality, has turned relationships between men and women from love and commitment to one of sexual "encounters". Why marry when a man came get a woman into bed for a one night stand and then tell her to get lost when the sun comes up? What is a typical American "man"? He is an uneducated slob with a greasy McDonald hamburger in one hand and beer in the other, standing on a street corner yelling at girls: "hey, baby, come on over here baby, come on baby, yeah baby, yeah"! The problem is that men no longer respects the females.

I am a straight disease free college educated black man born & raised in Atlanta , Ga. Finding a compatible mate is a dual issue & not one that is only a problem for women. I find it hard to find a good black woman because many subscribe to the social pathologies place on them by society. For example, the saying of I do not need a man, I can do bad all by myself, not wanting to take the man whose ask them to marry him last name, putting more focus on work rather family, watching mind numbing t.v. but most importantly it is hard to find a good black woman without kids. It is hard to find a woman with traditional family values. It is hard to find a good woman that realize that motherhood & being a wife is more important than self identifying with her job. (Yes, a woman should work) however, work (career) is how one talks care of their family but not who one is yet black women feel just the opposite. My number one issue is that I am very conservative & I am not a supporter of the current administration, many stop talking to me because of that. I have been asked how, can a black man not support another black man. I reply the same as I do not support black rapist, black drug dealers, black murders, etc... But mainly, I am not race conscious. I say to many woman that the mind-set of being independent is an overused & misused term. The real term is self-reliant. This thought keeps women self-centered & they end up becoming that type of man that they do not want. I also make many women aware that 42.5% of black women over 30 will never marry. I do not consider myself an african-american man. I am a strong black man that wants to be a husband, father, protector, provider & a man that do home projects around the house. There used to be a saying that the way to a man`s heart is through his stomach. I put the reasons why both black men & woman can not find that proper mate is due to the Social Pathologies that unknowingly plagues us.

Having a house & job as indicated in the story does not make anyone a good man or woman. Women have been led away from a truly important job which is family. They put their focus work then family. One thing I relay to them is that if you lose your job your family will always be there. However, if you lose your family, your job is still not a guarantee to be there for you. Hidden forces of our society have brainwashed women to think wife and mother is an oppressive and unworthy occupation as compared to working for the government or corporations i.e. the Illuminati. Young women are favored for jobs in order to break up the family, i.e. prevent women from having children and men from becoming providers. As result, women are squandering their precious years of fertility starting a career instead of a family. They learn skills and attitudes that often make them incompatible to men. We derive our identity and purpose from our family roles. Women's natural role is to be wives and mothers, to raise the new generation. (I'm not saying all women must do this or that they shouldn't have careers later.) The Illuminati (like their Communist front) pretend to champion a minority like Jews, Blacks, women, workers and gays. They don't give a damn about these groups. They use them to subvert the social and moral order and assume control. Our so-called leaders are betraying us. I myself do not date women with kids. I feel that if I did not take part in the pleasure of having a child, I do not want any part in the pain of raising that child. A harsh truth but it is how I feel. I want to be the focus of her life & reciprocate that logic. Therefore we can have that fulfilling relationship that man & woman should have. Furthermore, black woman do not give the new guy they are dating a clean slate. Black men have to deal with the ills that hunt black women from previous relationships.

The main reason why black women have problems finding a good man is because they don,t like nice guys. They don,t like you when you act like a gentleman further more the ones in America talks to much, can,t cook and don,t know how to keep the house clean.Women here thinks good sex with pretty face and high paid job can keep a man that is so sad.
