President Dmitry Medvedev and US President Barack Obama have agreed upon the final details of the new START treaty aimed at cutting stockpiles of nuclear warheads. The treaty has been signed in Prague on April 8.
Every journey begins with the first step literally. Hopefully the shoes fit well so that "blisters" are not significant. In Russia one of your "blisters" (one type) was dealt with, Khordokovsky. In the United States it seems our shoes create many "blisters". For two men such as President Obama and President Medvedev to speak with each other and not "to" each other, alone is a "good" (great) happening. This brings forth the possiblities of positive happenings for many, but there will always be the few whose agenda will not allow "good" to happen. The irony of these "few" is that there are already weapons systems that make nuclear weapons look like a medieval weapon. To verify one could ask Attorney General Eric Holder in the United States if he is investigating a private group in the United States sending banned electronic items to a private group in Russia? These private groups are of course trying to have blames put upon each country as they collect millions of dollars. Good luck to all.......
We are going to see an other expensive, useless, great deceitful show. Having 30% less nuclear warheads on each side is a good initiative, but listening to Obama telling the World that it will help control the nuclear proliferation is a joke. Studying the geopolitic for the last 60 years shows that with friends like America, every state has the right to protect itself; mostly if it (like Iran) has huge natural resources'reserve. This START treaty will not reduce the pressure imposed all around Russia by the US-NATO consorcium. To warranty the well being of all humans, we need a totally nuclear free World and no foreign military and spying installations on any nation... This show will only be a boost for Obama mild-term elections; knowing that his democratic party's majority is in trouble. Mr Medvedev should be firm and require other engagements benefiting not only Russia but the whole mankind (example: reducing from 30 to 50% each year Russia and the USA's military budget, then through the U-N expecting all nations to do the same). That insane military waste of over one trillion $ each year cannot go on much longer; mostly when considering the numerous challenges that we face if we want the next generations to have a decent future...Sincerely. Jean-Claude Meslin

Somehow, I have a distinct feeling that this Treaty will not change the current geopolitics not even 1%. Of course, Russia has nothing to lose signing on to this Treatty but I have a distinct feeling the world will as unsafe on 8 April 2010 as it is today. In fact, Perhaps, after 8 April, we may face, the beginning of the U.S bombing campaign against Iran. I have a haunch that we are in for darker times ahead. The U.S military build from Horn of Africa to Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan will not change after 8 April. Also, nothing will change with the U.S militarisation of Eastern Europe after 8 April 2010. It is shame that Russia did not give the weak nation of Ukraine the honour to hosting this event since it has asked to be given this chance before the Czech Republic was named. As for the Treaty itself, it seems Russia had no choice but to sign on to this Treaty. I feel that Russia has purchased a catching up time and has negotiated this Threat with that fact in mind. The last time USSR/not Russia did similar deal, we know how that one ended. Let us hope this time history will render a different verdict. However, I am encouraged by Russia’s recent defensive weapon research and development.
