US State Department did not push “reset” button

The Foreign Ministry has harshly criticized the US State Department’s report on advancing democracy in Russia, saying that it is based on double standards and does not comply with the “reset” policy.
When there are only two items on the menu, carrots and sticks, there is not much you can say about the menu. In fact if you look closely at the American democracy with todays administration, Moscow looks pretty decent. America should have welcomed the Russian partner playing referee with Brazil for the issue of Iran. When Mizzzz Clinton saw she was out foxed she went ballistic. What Russia should not forget is under Bush it was not the best , but with Obama your delirious to believe this government of democrats is any better.
Should the US continue with its reset policy toward Russia?Absolutely yes! Should it call Russia a democracy even if it is not by international standards? No! In Russia journalists are being musled, threatened and killed... The political and burocratic oligarchs are heavily engaging in corruption (up to 20% of GDP per year!!!)and getting away with it while the modernization isn`t going fast enough because of the stifling of private businesses by the burocracy and a system with no checks and balances in the political life which in consequence could lead to a nightmare scenario of a second Yeltsin coming to power and doing what he wants without anyone within the country standing up to him... Yes,Putin did a lot of good things ,he is intelligent, but in the long run Russia needs a functioning democratic state with clear rules for everyone and constitutional checks... Remeber, things are much easier to destroy than to rebuild,a person like Gorbachev or Yeltsin in power again as president without strong control would crash Russia again and this could happen very easily within totalitarian country where the ordinary citizens are not engaged actively and freely in politics, wheter as journalists, politicians or businessmen...
C'mon. You Russians didn't expect the American government to live up to anything did you? Benjamin Franklin described Democracy " two wolves and a sheep voting on whats for lunch". America's trying to build a international democracy to the extent that democracy means majority rule or might makes right. The one with the might, rules. Inform people of the true definition of democracy. By far it's the worst governmental system as far as the people are concerned. Obama and his ilk know that. Bush knew that. Your playing a mind game with masters in America.
Well if Russia wants a "reset" to be successful, why did they put these so-called spies in the US? That is another way of looking at this situation. Reset does not mean that one country should turn a blind eye to others breaking its laws.
CG What is “democracy” according to the United States? Why not write a short why you think the United States is democratic and Russia is not. Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs failed to point out the U.S illegal occupation of Iraq and also Afghanistan. The U.S is an empire with 700 plus military bases around the world. I addition, it is currently waging two wars. But Ms Clinton c calls Russia “undemocratic” rather than striking back with counter factual talking points, the Russians instead sulk and whine! This is the product of bad PR. Pure and simple. It has nothing to do with democracy.
@Gary....do you think that US and UK do not have their spies in Russia ??
The Russians are no fools; They are biding their time... modernizing their military, building their economy structurally like China and Brazil while the US is still in a cyclical (it'll take care of itself mode); let the US shoot their mouths off and thump their chests....it's all for domestic consumption, 2% own 95% of the assets. the politicians and the media, so it doesn't matter who the president is, the foreign policy remains the same, that is to control as much of the world's resources with whatever the means ; the wannabe empire is running out of resources and friends!!!! perhaps that is why the powers that are(2%) chose Obama to win , just to show to the the world how " racially equal we are" . Remember the "Georgian crisis" how our media outwardly lied and distorted the facts, Biden, Hilary, even Obama along with those clowns in th EU threatened the Russians with all "kinds of nasties", what happened... NOTHING !!!!!! I wouldn't pay much heed to our so called human rights and democratic criticisms...."By their fruits ye shall know them"...... Fred....oregon, usa

DEMOCRACY - James Madison..Democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatable with personal security or the rights of property; and in general been as short in their lives as they have been violant in their deaths..." That's the history of Democracies unless they are governed by transcendental law, God's Law. Morality - God rules of action and interaction.
@Gary .. remeber when the US reporters got caught in Thailand or N- Korea a few months ago.... (don't remember which one) .... the whole US government and CNN were standing on their ears .. even clinton went there to free them ..lol
What Hillary forgot to mention is that the US is complicit in the blockade of GAZA, and the Israeli occdupation of Palestian land. Surprise! So what if we've attacked countries that never attacked us, and we will leave failed states in our wake. Now we are hearing the drumbeats for war with Iran, with Bill Clinton reporting that they may have suitcase bombs, and during the meeting with "BiBi, Iran was number one on the list of the most dangerous countries. And to think, the US has to build a missle defense in Poland, to protect all of Europe from Iran, I guess the US feels that the European countries are too inept to protect themselves, or even to voice the need for such protection. the US knows what is best for Europe. In its zeal, it has convinced the EU to allow it to have access to civilians bank accounts to check for terrorists of course. The US doesn't mention the twenty plus nukes Israel has, paid for by our foreign aid gifts. Hillary wants the Russians to believe they are purely for defense, just like Obama wanted to reassure the Muslim world that he wanted to show them change, and did but the change was what AIPAC and Israel could believe in not the Muslim world.
Life for ordinary people is pretty similar wherever you go. I have been to Russia more than once since 2002 and it seemed O.K. to me. My father always said "there is no such thing as democracy.". The men with the money usually call the shots everywhere in the world and talk about "civil rights" is usually only talk. Civil rights for whom? I admire Russia and Russian people and I always feel at home visiting Russia which is something I cannot say about a few places in the world. Politics which we receive in the media is a theatrical performance for the public, although it may be true from time to time. The trick is to know what is true and what is untrue Russia is a peaceful nation and the criticism from the west of Russia tells us more about those doing the criticizing than it does about Russia..

Now, despite the bungled inept so-called spies, I still have some faith in Russia’s capacity to read a situation correctly. Now, did the Russia’s authorities have concrete indications that the socalled “reset” was in motion? Why do Russia authorities always act “surprised” and “clueless” when they can look at U.S foreign policy toward Russia? We have been insisting the reset was a fake, greasy, defective and unhealthy for Russia. It is disappoint Russia’s authorities are finding out the U.S foreign policy toward Russia has never changed: It was always the same: entrapment, encirclement and dream reams the same- Full Spectrum Dominance.
