Strategic issues such as the shelving of US AMD in Eastern Europe shouldn’t dominate relations between states in the modern world, says Sergey Utkin from the Institute of World Economy and International Relations.
The Polish Defense Ministry has already called the decision by the US “a catastrophe”.
Concerning the problem of Russia’s relations with Poland and the Czech Republic, Utkin believes that “in the 21st century, it’s really odd to have a discussion between the countries dominated by strategic issues.”
“We need to think more about economic and cultural cooperation with these countries. Humanitarian issues – they are to take central stage in the relations between states.”
“The fact that we have the antiballistic missile issue as the core of the talks with these Eastern European countries means the relations are distorted and should be changed”, the analyst believes.
“Obama shows he wants new relations with Russia”Shelving plans to put AMD in Eastern Europe comes as the first clear sign that President Barack Obama really wants a new kind of relationship with Russia, said former European Parliament member Giulietto Chiesa. |
“US decision - a big victory for the Czech people”The US decision to scrap the AMD plans in Europe is an important one for the 70% of Czechs who were against it, says Jan Tamas from the “No To Base” movement. |
Absolutely corect, the reality is that now Russia,USA,Old Europe, China and upcoming India are the strategic players in the world. These are the ones that will determine the security or lack of it in the world and the overall interest balance. Discussions with other nations, need to take on a more realistic normal character, discussing trade, culture, social development ...... Strategic discussions in these forums are meaningless, counterproductive and quite frankly a waste of time and effort.

Make money, not war. We will never get to the stars if we keep wasting resources on military adventurism.
