Say the wrong thing on Facebook or MySpace and you could lose your job – if you are a civilian. However, many white supremacists in the US military seem to have little fear regarding their online conduct.

“I love my country and my people more than my very own life,” wrote an army soldier, who is due to return from Iraq this year. His online profile also says, “I hate illegal immigrants with a passion and feel every true red-blooded white American should do whatever it takes to stop the foreign invasion and protect America and the American way of life so our children can grow up in a pure white America someday.”

Among this soldier’s listed interests and hobbies are white women who haven’t been corrupted by minorities, gun collecting and “most importantly – striving to make sure the white race remains supreme and pure.”

Hating other races may be a person’s prerogative if he is a civilian, but soldiers vow to serve and protect a nation, not just one segment of it. A soldier who is a white supremacist negates the possibility of allegiance to all, and their military training adds potential danger.

During the recession of the 1990s, right-wing terrorist and extremist groups exploded. Factors driving the growth included economic difficulties, the outsourcing of jobs and proposed gun control. Then in 1995, Timothy McVeigh bombed a building in Oklahoma City.

Now, the United States is in a worsening recession, with record-breaking home foreclosures, unemployment, limited credit – and has a black president who is proposing stricter gun controls.

As a result, there appears to be another surge in extremism. Two white marines, Nicholas Daniel Hanke and Kody Brittingham, have already been arrested for threatening President Obama.

A federal report on right-wing extremism notes that the government has detected “extremist chatter” on the internet, and high volume purchases and stockpiling of weapons and ammunition by right-wing extremists continue to be a primary concern.

The report also says that “right-wing extremists will attempt to recruit and radicalize returning veterans in order to exploit their skills and knowledge derived from military training and combat.”

The internet could prove a window of opportunity for authorities if they are sincerely concerned that white extremist soldiers may take advantage of their training.

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) accuses the military of permitting extremists to fulfill quotas for the ongoing wars in the Middle East.

Former Undersecretary of Defense David Chu insists the military has a “zero tolerance” policy towards such behavior and rigorous screening.

However, following reports of 320 extremists at Fort Lewis, he said “applying the definition of ‘participation’, officials could not identify a single soldier who could be asserted to be an extremist.”

To reports that soldiers were expressing extremist views on Myspace, Chu said they were under continuing investigation but “unless additional information is discovered, it does not appear that there is sufficient information to conclude that these soldiers are participating in hate groups.”

Earlier this month, the SPLC drafted a letter reiterating the need for an investigation into the threat posed by racial extremists in the military.

The SPLC says, “Since 1994, the military has discharged more than 12,500 service members simply because of their homosexuality. It seems anomalous that the Pentagon would consider homosexuals more of a threat to order than neo-Nazis and other white supremacists.”

The United States government has one of the best intelligence forces in the world and an obsession with terrorism, so it seems unlikely that real efforts to expose white extremists would end up fruitless.

Many soldiers boldly express their views on the internet, give personal details such as their hometown and their branch of service. If that is not enough, they also post their pictures.

One user who calls himself “FightingforWhites” openly admitted online, “I run the White Military Men group, but all of us hide our names and affiliations other than the branch and rarely talk.”

Where did this solider say he 'hated other races?" Nothing that was quoted mentions that. Not wanting illegal aliens in this country is not racist. Also preferring to be around people that are similar to you is natural and almost everyone feels that way and does not mean someone is racist.

As a former soldier, I can tell you the soldiers quoted for this article are the exception not the rule. My brothers and sisters in arms have no color. As for illegal aliens, the have no color or race either. If you come to the USA illegally, then you are a law breaker. Illegal aliens are a drain on our social services, education system, healthcare, and employment. They hold down wages for legal, tax paying citizens. There are people waiting to come to the US and follow all of the rules. They should have first priority!
