Three new families instead of the lost one?

Three Moscow families wish to adopt 7-year-old Artyom, who was sent back to Russia by his adoptive mother, a US citizen, according to Russia’s ombudsman for children’s rights, Pavel Astakhov.
Sometimes it works very well. I am an Englishman living in the USA with an American/Canadian wife and we adopted a young boy from the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk in 2002. I have always been interested in Russia (and knew by heart the names and capitals of the old 15 republics), speaking a few smatterings of Russian that I learned at school. With this in mind we take every opportunity to remind our son of his Russian origins, keeping his original Russian name in his existing name. We see ourselves as a great international family, a fusion of ENGLISH, AMERICAN, CANADIAN and, of course, RUSSIAN. Our son loves the fact that he is American and yet also a little different and job situation permitting (times are tough in the USA!), we have been making plans to attend the Black Sea Olympic Games in 2016 in Sochi, something that I would love to do with him. To begin with the doctors warned us that his head size was small, that he might have difficulty at school and although he is a little slow with some things he is doing fairly well and we and his extended family absolutely LOVE him to bits. I always say that there are good, bad and indifferent people everywhere (including Russia) but we met with mainly the good in Krasnoyarsk and our little gift from Russia is something that we will remember all of our lives and, of course, has changed our lives forever. With the above in mind I hope that other families are not prevented from adopting from Russia and would like to let people in Russia know that American families love their children, no matter where their origins lie. As the song says, "Children are our future ..." and I believe that very strongly. Love to all.
Speaking as an American, this makes me sick. How this psycho woman was ever allowed to adopt this innocent boy is pure madness in itself. What's up with Artyom's name being changed too? Is it just a practice of assimilation involved in adoption? I don't get it... I would be proud to carry Russian heritage in the form of a name and would want the same for my adopted son, if I had one.
Steven, I share your outrage. Indeed, there is symbolic meaning to a name. During the 18th century Irish famine, tens of thousands of orphaned Irish children were adopted in Quebec, Canada. The Catholic French families who adopted these children let them keep their Irish names. Today, Irish names are common in Quebec. So stripping this little boy his birth name so quickly is the first sign of this woman’s mental instability and cruel conduct toward this boy. Now there are new media reports that she started the process of trying to adopt a child from Georgia while she was working in ways to send back this Russian boy. But I am also searching to find out why Russia, the great and heroic nation with glorious history of heroism cannot keep its precious orphan kids within the Russian homes and families. There is deeper moral corruption afoot here.
He belongs with his own people, and can help make Russia a better nation!
I just saw the first have of Peter Lavelle’s Crosstalk on U.S adoption of Russian Children. Peter is doing great job but this episode is hastily put together. There should be follow-up discussions the further explore this troubling practice that bring to the fore Russian lawmakers, psychologists, child care and child welfare advocates and Russian families who want to adopt Russian children. Massive transfer of Russian children to foreign countries is a national shame and national tragedy for Russia. http://en.rian.ru/russia/20100416/158614242.html http://en.rian.ru/video/20100412/158534223.html

Hello RT, in all your previous reports on this sad case, you have indicated the boy had an expired U.S Visa and a Russian passport! But now you are telling us a different story. Please clarify this point. Is the boy a U.S citizen he has a Russian passport and expired U.S Visa when he came back alone with a note saying that he was not wanted? Also, if adopted mother in question sent back the boy because she did not want him, what rights does has over him now? Russian lawmakers must not allow this boy to be sent back to that family. Russia has so much natural/human/ compassionate wealth; Russia shall stop the practice of sending Russian children including this boy out of the country. This little boy must be placed in a loving family as soon as possible. He has suffered enough trauma already. I do remember little Cuban boy who was used as a political tool in the United States! I do hope that this little boy does not become a political tool either.
