Social progress and human well being is always second to monetary gain. If a problem is profitable, the problem will remain. Abundance, sustainability and efficiency are enemies of profit.

Great interview! This is what wisdom is all about. We can have all the knowledge, yet, the mankind lacks wisdom. One issue has bugged me though. Are wars the inability to solve problems? Or are they the result of the calculation of one party that it has the advantage over another, and has a "sure" way to win and profit? Or at times, wars are a way to solve internal problems; having screwed up beyond belief, the elites in power seek a major distraction to get the population to support them. Even on empty stomachs, if masses can be convinced that whatever the enemy, it needs to be defeated. And how many times in history have we witnessed Bay of Pigs or Markale Market in Sarajevo, or Lusitania --- or whatever set up to justify military action? Wars are mostly not problems between nations to be solved. They are rather a failure of a system to maintain itself peacefully, and increasingly needs military to prop itself up. Nazi Germany could not sustain its military-driven economic development without war. And no matter how much was said about the stupidity of Versailles and the injustice of it all that caused WWII --- Western Allies are still collecting payments from Germany from WWI reparations. So, Versailles is still very much valid, and the bankers are expecting payments. In fact, Germany will only NEXT year finish paying for WWI. And to really think about it, it was Austro-Hungarian Empire that started the war, dragging Germany pretty much unwilling into the mess. But the Western propaganda wanted that war to be about Germany. Ever since unification, France and England saw Germany as a competitor, not the decrepit Austro-Hungarian Empire. So, from day one, the "Kaiser" was villanized, as if he was the one who started the war. In fact, if there was one person who should have been held most responsible for the "Peace Pope" who made old Emperor cry, and agree to start the war. So much nonsense in history books.

His ideas are interesting and even truthful at times but rather impractical in today’s context. But then, who knows, in the future people may get disillusioned enough to try them. After all we did move from a resource based Gold standard to a paper one called money! It is all conditioning of the mind.

The biggest bully in the sandbox always end up stealing the resources from the other kids. It is so because bullies by nature are unhonest thieves. The bully in this case is United States. Today tons of raw materials are shipped from undeveloped nations towards United States so they can pay for foreign debts, often artificially created by dictators imposed by the United States. Never will a resource economy work as long as there are thieves lurking around in the shadowlands and smokelands of the world. This man is an utopist. Utopias are beautiful but sometimes they don't work.

Mis February 22, 2010, 10:58 quote

It would be really nice if it wasn't Utopia, but something that could be put into practice. But we can't expect a change to occur overnight, people aren't ready for this, perhaps this society won't become a reality for the next hundred years.

Douglas February 22, 2010, 17:37 quote

For those who throw around the word Utopia, you have not done enough research on Jacque Fresco or the Venus Project. He, and those of us who advocate the Venus Project, hate the word Utopia. There is no such thing. Utopia assumes that everything is perfect and unchanging. Bogus. The only constant in the Universe is change, I should know, I'm an Aerospace Engineer and student of astrophysics. Jacque, as a scientifically minded person, understands this as well. If you listen to his many speeches, this becomes self evident. Utopia is a false ideal. The RBE (Resource Based Economy) that Jacque has come up with is simply a better system than now, by a lot, but there are always ways to improve any given system, in time, by the advent of better technology or by developing advanced understanding that betters the system. Please don't get wrapped up in the word Utopia, because that is bogus.

Nice one RT, This was one of the best shows I saw on this channel. Jacque Fresco gives a good example to the world, much better than Mad Max.
