I doubt that the U.S can build large military bases in Afghanistan and hide them from the Russians. It is possible, the Russians know about these bases and have decided not comment about them in public. But it is more than true the West has tried and still trying to weaken Russia through softer means such as aggressive promotion of consumerism, weakening of the social fabric of the Russian society. Just look at what is happening to Arab societies after 200 years of first British and then U.S domination.

The US builds bases - secret or not - in many countries around the world in locations where the US feels they can be of use, now or in the future. Many other countries with global interests do the same, it is good military practice / planning. As for Afghanistan, this is a very strategic country, as evidenced by the number of times in history global powers of the day have tried to occupy it. It would and does make more sense for the US to run bases in the country rather than try to conquer it. There does seem to be a move towards this, so perhaps new base construction should be considered as footholds / keep your options open facilities. China, Pakistan, and Iran are currently of more interest to the US than Russia. Unless Russia is planning to implode any time soon I don't think Russia need to worry too much about 'secret' bases, its main worry should be not allowing itself to be surrounded by anti-missile (and by default anti-aircraft) systems. Any 'secret' bases in Afghanistan would most likely be used by special forces infiltraing Pakistan and Iran. Russia can sleep easy, for now.

This guy has too much time on his hands. This is totally silly to even think such things. But, it does give him some attention, which is probably what he desires.

Why, on earth, should the USA build secret bases in Afghanistan for war against Russia - there is no need for this - Russia is desintegrating on its own - why waiste money and energy......Don't flatter yourself, Russia, you are totally insignificant...

If they are secret how does he knows... Afghan bases are not secret but well known and they are prepared to face CHINA rather than Russia. Remember how China is encircled: bases in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Guam, Australia...all in the Pacific Ocean. So for the Eastern flank of China which links China to the European markets by land: Afghanistan and Kyrgyztan. In the case of a Sino-American conventional War China wouldn´t have many options left. And if the Russian Federation decides for Neutrality but supporting an embargo against China, then that nation wouldn´t have any link left to the European or American Markets. For the future of the Russian Federation, Sweden and Finland are an example. Russia is placed between NATO territory and CHINA, and the population of Russia is just 10% of China´s, almost similar to Sweden compared to Russia. But the same way as Sweden and Finland have an strategycal Association with NATO as they feel closer by ideology and civilisation to Western Europe and the U.S., then the Russian Federation has also an Association with NATO through the Partnership for Peace, as almost 80% of Russia´s population and economy is placed in European Russia (first of al the 40 million people Central federal disrict) so Russia would cooperate in an Embargo against China if necessary during a Sino-American War and, probably, would allow NATO Aircraft to use its territory...but Russia will NEVER declare War against China as it is not in its interest. Russia would never send troops against China.

I dont believe that war will ever come between Usa and Russia but you never know...If they really building bases for eventual war with Russia I will say: dont spend money, and time to commit suicide.Russia was and always will be a grave yard for self proclamed "superpowers" and nothing will ever change that in future.Instead, I sugest them to spare some lifes of Iraqis , Afghans and their own citizens and pull back troops home and also do not spend money on weapons and wars but spend on helping their own ordinary citizens at home in this hard economy times. Priority to healtcare (Cuba got 100x better ), homeless, new jobs and so on...Above all stop this ongoing biggest ecological catastrophe which ever hapend till now in the world-oil leak in Golf of Mexico and help fisherman families who will lost everything.Responsible government who as first and foremost serve and care about their own citizens, act in this way....Thank you

Now, is it possible for RT to go easy on its endless repeat of the "U.S/Russia" reset grand project! My, my...the topic of this section should draw about 200 posts, considering the nature of the headline. And half of those will be from PR101. This story is like a cheap headline in a tabloid....RT should be ashamed of publishing such sensationalism.

I am surprised that so many people still ignore the real reasons for US going in Irak, Afghanistan, Pakistan and soon Iran. Many articles were written on this subject by investigative journalists, most of them Americans such as Webster Tarpley. They all come to the same conclusion: slow down the Chinese growth by cutting the oil and gas needed and stopping Russia's monopoly as being the first gas supplier to Europe, thus cementing US as the world superpower. Everything has to do with pipelines, stopping or by-passing some and building others. Just type on your keyboard PNAC (Plan for a New American Century) and you'll get all your answers. Everything has to do with the total control of Central Asia including its massive reserves in gas and oil. Iran is in the path of PNAC plan. Iran eventually will be invaded strictly for its gas reserve which come 2nd after Russia. The invasion of Iran will have nothing to do with its nuclear program. US couldn't care less. They need Iran's territory to pass the pipeline through the Caspian sea to Georgia then to Europe under the sole control of American big corporations.

Tarpley predicted every move, every promise and every u-turn Obama has made over a year ago. It has all come true. He said Obama is a creature of Zbigniew Bryzinsky; that unlike the Neo-Cons, who were all about Israel and bullying weak nations (Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran) that could not strike back, Bryzinsky is a global madman of a much more dangerous order who sees Russia and China as the threats to Anglo-American hegemony that must be countered. He said that Obama would not want to attack Iran but rather befriend it and turn it against Russia.....that Pakistan would be Obama's first target with the aim of 'Balkanising' it in the name of something like 'dignity' and independence for the different tribal regions....so Pakistan would fragment into 4 or 5 pieces and deny China a natural ally (shared border) also impeding the setting up of an energy corridor from Iran to China through Pakistan....and so on. Get further details here, in this brilliant but alarming documentary, "The Obama Deception": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAaQNACwaLw

Perhaps Russia in the future may see these "secret" bases as not a site to attack them, but to protect them. China wanting the Northern Resource Area might make strange allies. Covering your lower flank would release assets to other areas.

Nice comment Enrigue-I think you are right..its about China. Probable not to make war but to stop China become no.1 power in the world! I must say, it is mission impossible! Lets not forget about history:1) China was saved thanks to Russians-few times. After WW2 Manjuria was to be part of Japan by Usa standing but Russia prevent that. 2) In Korea, China was fighting almost all world and won just becouse Russia give them a hand in Air support(Mig 15 clean skies over their land Armies so not 1 Usa or other plane could fly-not one-about 5000 Usa pilots never return from Siberia-check history facts)...Looking at this lost war with China,Usa general McArtir (no.1 Usa general and a hero from WW2) said that that he will drop nuclear bomb on China but Russians warned Rusvelt no to even think of that! Tomorow Rusvelt come on TV and said that he can not agree with this general thinking and have a nuclear war with Russia, so he put him under house arrest! So in my opinion if ever come to that war(it will be a suicide for attacker) Russia will openly support China by all means! Russia help China to become what is today and what will be tomorow(no.1 power in the world)...Among other right reasons to save China is also to give them time to be ably to take care of Japan and Usa- ALONE!China of today is a great security for Eastern Russia to!Russian land is a road for China trade and goods to Europe and Asia and will remain open.Unless China forget how it was when it was, nothing will change Russia standing-it will openly help without any doubt.Russia will remain neutral only if China and India have a war but this is unlikely becouse both are part of BRIC and Russia serve as a honest mediator between those two.To mcc-Russia is so "insignificant"-they can bury you(Usa+Nato+) in any kind of war(land, sea,or space)..In direct war Russia vs Usa result is 2:0 for Russia.Korea is one and other?Find out...Read history books, and dont dream...

Is it April Fools Day again? Are little grey aliens or lizard people involved? Seriously RT, why do you cover this sort of stuff? Any war between USA and Russia would likely be an air war (at least, for the USA) and would probably progress very quickly through various types and sizes of missiles - none of which would benefit from bases in Afghanistan. The USA is trying to think how to get themselves out of two unpopular wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and are now worried at the prospects of Iran giving nuclear weapons to Hezbollah or North Korea actually putting a warhead in the next big missile they lob towards Japan. This is all in addition to a general threat of terrorism from any number of groups who consider the USA their enemy. Starting a war with Russia is not likely to be high on anyone's list of things to do.

hrvan Protecting the Russian by the U.S? From whom? Of course, all these billions of Asians [China!] In fact, I find this fantasy- the supposed need to “protect Russia’ natural resources” for Europe is widespread in Europe. Do you think the Russians can do for themselves? This shows the Barbarossa project has been resurrected and the U.S leading this unholy project, this time around. The author is correct in this point.

Thank you mr. Daniel Estulin ! Anyone with the smallest sense of history and geography can see and feel that the containment policies of the US are focused against Russia and China. We are in the phase where Russia will lose the trust of those that could be of any help and soon the big price which is `RUSSIAN ENERGY RECOURSES` will have to be turned over and Russia turned into a colony of the western capitalist elites. I think the price for the betrayal of Iran will cost Russia her independance and significance and anyone in their sound mind will think twice before trusting any deal made with any Russian entity, political or economic.
