With just two weeks to go before President Obama's visit to Moscow, nuclear disarmament is the hot topic in the US Congress, as Russia and America have only six months left to reach a compromise on a new weapons treaty.

nuclear disarming is hardly a big story in the us.

Yes I believe that the reduction of nuclear stockpiles is right. I believe that the missile defence system can be built, but with an agreement to bring more ideas into the picture. And if it is in Eastern Europe then why not have it in Russia's territory. If there are tight systems of intelligence amongst the nations, who can be trusted, then it doesn't matter where you put the missile defence system. I believe that nations can trust Russia. Kind regards Anton Hoenderkamp

They have no intention of disarming and they have every intention of continuing to threaten Russia on every side. I urge everyone reading this to get hold of a copy of a new book by the great historian and writer, William Engdal, or just go to the read a synposis of the book. It is by Stephen Lendman. Those in Washington who are in total control of the US are absolutely mad, insane and dangerous. I am sure that the Russian leadership knows this and will, please God, take every precaution. The Russian people don't know how lucky they are to have such great men leading their country and taking care of them. The whole World should be grateful that they exist - but that does not mean that they will be able to stop the insane subhumans who really do want war, no matter what the cost. They are truly criminally insane.

@ Anton. I don't see why Russia would want a shield on her territory, what would be its purpose? Who would it protect? Against whom? Please do not believe the US stories about Iran, Iran would never harm Russia or any of the former soviet states, the people of Persia have lived next door to the Soviets for ages without aggression. Please believe only what you see, with your eyes you can see wars happening and you can see that all these wars are being fought by America and Israel.

Artyom, few words, but so accurate! well said. The problem is that institutional USA, isn't Congress, it isn't the president, it is a small group of extreme finaciers. Some politicians could try to be genuine, some could be acting as part of a good cop bad cop act. Whichever, doesn't really matter, because the next incumbent puppets could be the bad cops, they really could be right sons of Bushes directed by the 'few'

Why won't you stop believing that the U.S. will "stab" Russia? For once I am proud of being a 17 year old American! You can try as much as you want to convince people that America will stab you but you are mistaken. No one that i know of or have heard speaks about Russia. Not because we "hate" Russia but because we are too busy trying to get money and struggling to stay alive. I say Struggling because I am a Mexican-American. For God's sakes we will not start a war because nobody in the U.S. wants another war. Also the U.S. is stupid for wanting to put a defense system in Europe. I agree that the U.S. shouldn't do that. Also Russians need to stop believing bad things about the U.S. because most Americans are idiots and don't even know that Russia was a communist country or any history at all! Please.... stop with those beliefs and try to unite Russia and the U.S. because remember without Russia there can't be us!=) - Bryant

Astraea: Well said! A very nice and balanced reasoning. Thank you. DEDA CVETKO and Artyom have both hit the nail on the head. Yankees are in no way to be trusted even a single word, for they are insane liars.

LB9806/Bryant (Bryant sounds better) Listen, you are 17, and full of optimism and political innocence, and it is nice to see, you have that right to be this way, it is to be respected. There is also no reason, why you shouldn't be able to be proud of your country. You use My and I a lot, because the world for you is the immediate world around you, you want to discover more, and acquire knowledge from a wider field and that is great, I commend you for it! I also commend yourself for wanting cooperation in the world, and the creation of a better world! You say quite sweeping statements, like no one in America wants a war, no one wants to stab Russia. You paint a picture of the USA sitting in its own country, fixing up the homestead. Its a nice blameless picture of Hollywood proportions, of the US not harming a soul in the world. However, what do you say to the Iraqi mother who loses her son in an American strike, an Iraqi man who sees his duaghter raped. A Pakastani man who loses his whole family. Who is doing these things, for you no one, because Americans don't do war, they are busy, trying to survive. The point you miss, and is well elaborated on this site, in many good posts, is that the USA has its people who are split into many faceted opinions, and then it has institutional USA with conrete, direct, empire driven motives in detrement to their own citizens, and the world at large. I have no issues with American people, and the original American values, what I have a huge issue with is intitutional USA, which has waged wars, is waging wars, and will wage wars, until its own people manage to regain control again from the 'few'. I do share one thing with you, and that is some hope that the younger people in the USA, can turn their country around over time. For the USA should be a great country, not an international terrorist and bully as it is today. So please don't ask us to trust you as it is today. This is not a slight on the wholeAmerican people, it is a slight on instututional USA. I honestly think that it will be beyond my lifetime and that of my childrens, before the level of trust you talk about could exist, proven by actual deeds with regard to institutional USA. But I would like to be wrong! So think a bit more about your government and how much (I)(MY) and the millions of other Bryants and their sisters, mums and dads, have real influence on it. Take care!

Sorry to break the news Russia but we aren't that threaten by you any more(well not as threatened). We are not always conspiring against you. You guys have to cool down with this anti-American talk. You guys are acting like Russia has no skeletons in the closet. I know some if not most of you aren't always trying to spew hate against the US. But it seems like every article I go to has a person that is blaming the US for it. Just go into everything with an open mind. I know it's hard and I sure don't do it all the time, but it's the best way to go into any situation.

Count Cash June 28, 2009, 11:08 quote

Sean - don't your really mean, Russia go into things naively, the we can pull the wool over your eyes! isn't that the open mindedness your looking for! When I see the AMD scrapped and no NATO fighters and spying stations right on our borders, then what you say, could be believed. until then, we believe nothing from you, because actions speak loader than words. Remember, your skeletons, aren't in the closet, they are dancing around all over rhe world, in every country, including your own.

Well Count Cash, I would likely see the same from russian side - with the exception that those installations and jets where there before even Baltics and Poland entered NATO - so don`t be silly.

Aren't people so silly, thinking NATO is a sovereign nation! Maybe your foolishness will be truly revealed, when you bluff is truly called! US and Russia is a powerful combination, whats in between, well it drops straight through onto the floor! Frightening isn't it!

My dear friends, you have all wrong. Each US congressman or senator, when elected, does exactly what french politicians do: whole that they want is to stay elected as long as possible. When I lived in the state of Washington; those representing the people knew who was the boss: Boeing and its employees. To obtain money from the congress for their state, incidently for the company procuring work; the politicians in Washington D-C and the electors in Seattle voted according to what they were told, was their best interest. As simple as that !!! Each state which has Military Industrial Complex's firms operate in the same money-talks' way (with a two partis' system, it is easy to master and no-one complain). To care or not to care about Russia, China, Europe or anybody else is irrelevant. Most politicians have a one track's mind, nothing else. It is rather sad, but just look around. Sorry Future Generations ! Sincerely. Jean-Claude Meslin
