If It is true, then it is good news, and a sign that the US is starting to think logically about security, instead of thinking ideologically. Ideology has gotten the US in illogical wars and conflicts, that their military have had to hopelessly pursue. I am sure a return to a pragmatic security stance is sensible and will be welcomed by US citizens. The concept of the US spending its tax dollars to look after real security concerns and issues seems entirely sensible, to use them in some geopolitical ideological games, seems a total waste of resources. It seems the US government is starting to govern as opposed to the 'reds under the beds' security and banking oligarchs.

If it is true, then ... we saw now that US lost the politician battle agains Russia. US financial crisis make country weak so much that they are blind for a future. The way of Obama government is wrong. Russia makes wise and hard politics that gaves them profits without ant consequences. The clear proof of that was in Georgia or 17 September 1939 in Poland (we are still remember ...).

I agree with Peter Lavelle of RT - it was almost a foregone conclusion for Obama: - The system is too expensive (and might not work "on the day"). The USA has not got money to waste at present and Obama has been cancelling other expensive projects, like the F22. - Iran's long range missiles cover Israel and Cyprus but can't reach continental Europe. If Iran wanted to attack the USA or Europe, it would do what it has done before and use terrorist proxies. - The system affects the balance of strategic weapons in Eastern Europe, thereby annoying Russia. This would prevent progess in arms reduction and would likely lead to an arms race. Furthermore, it would threaten the cooperation that the USA has and hopes to receive in areas like overflights of Russia to resupply US troops in Afghanistan and the tricky issue of Iran's nuclear program.

Now when the shield wont be both in Poland & Cz.R., how about installing it in its base in Bondsteel base ? They dont have to ask anybody.

Sanity at last. It is a good thing! Obama may have his faults, but this action I agree with 100%. The previous administration was too hawkish AND financially unstable at the same time. This latest decision gives everybody a little breathing room from the clash of rattling sabers.

This is the most promising sign coming out of the US in recent years. This is truly the way forward with Russia and the best signs the new US administration is willing to back its words with actions and real change. Thank you Mr. President. You are following up on all of your campaign promises despite a very loud minority of misinformed Americans that continue to be misled, manipulated and instigated by the constant bombardment of right wing propaganda/noise coming out of some cable news channels. It was also a logical conclusion based on the shields huge cost:benefit ratio and it’s uncertain effectiveness. If Iran wanted to inflict any harm on western culture, I think it would choose to do so asymmetrically rather than a direct missile strike.

I agree with Count Cash It is true. Main reason for this good news is Russia stance! Usa security in future after all, depent sole on Russia policy! What happend in Georgia was a clear message to Usa and Nato-Russia will use the force by all means...Ultimatum was given to back of or be gone forever!Mr.Bush did back of, with right reasons!Russia is peacefull but any threat to them is grave mistake!Nobody normal will threat state, wich can in less than 1 hour kill all life on planet 10 times over!Obama understand that verry well....Neverthe less this is indeed change for better! Reset button did start to work...

Andrew, Stalin waited for over two weeks after Hitler - still hoping that the West will mount a meaningful resistance to Hitler. French had a firm commitment to land in Romania no later than two weeks after Poland got attacked. Remember *that*.

Seriously misguided , naive, and not qualifed to lead. Obama should resign. To think that one action can bring upon a domino effect, that putting our country at risk and not looking at the big picture for the sake of populairty is sickening and frightening. People do not change their colors, their behaviours, pr their ways because we have a "progressive" President. Grow up people.

Well after giving it a second thought, they say delaying the shield which can mean: after the arms reduction US may come with Iran having a strategic missile- this can be used both for the shield as well as for invasion of Iran. We´ve all seen how they made up WMD´s and wars through their short but imperial history from Franklin to Bush (even Obama will strive for peace while making war)., theres no doubt this will repeat. It seems US wants to be a military perpetuum mobile, until they conquer the thole world. Overconfident calculations will make it impossible. I wonder when that behemoth of war will stop... 1 thing I have learnt is never to believe major powers, especially those who kill people on ´humanitarian´ behalf.

@Andrew The US, Britain and Israel through there proxy Georgia attacked S Ossetia with a massive bombardment on the capital a well organised and pre-planned assault confirmed by the fact that Georgian intelligence was caught trying to recruit Georgia’s in the Russian army, terror attack in Sochi, use of Ukrainian forces and weapons, etc. There would not have been a war if US and Britain had not have vetoed an emergency ceasefire resolution brought forth by Russia before Russia sent in troops to stop Georgian ethnic cleansing so they obviously wanted war. Just like they did to the Serbs in Operation Storm in 95 as the same MPRI forces were training Georgian forces in sabotage techniques. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIh8_UJrOGc This is just the latest effort since 89 to try and destabilise and Balkanise Russia mainly through Islamic proxy. The US/Israel/Britain and Georgia run the largest Islamic international terrorist camp against Russia today in the Panski Gorge. I'm sure Russia remembers the attack by Japan of 8 February 1904 by British proxy and elements in the US mainly Jacob Schiff. And Soviet Russia’s actions action’s were financed and approved from abroad until the end of WW2 who’s decision making a regime we installed in Russia lead by two non-Russians at the time Georgians Stalin supreme dictator and Beria head of the NKVD. And Communism was a western invention installed by a western orchestrated and financed coup that they tried previously in 1905 where the Russian majority government became the minority and you can guess who the majority was. http://www.the7thfire.com/new_world_order/final_warning/support_of_lenin_and_the_russian_revolution.htm http://www.the7thfire.com/new_world_order/zionism/jews_and_bolshevism.htm

The question is, if terrorism now breaks out in both the USA and Russia… then who the hell are we really fighting? Makes you think hey… damn this is a mad world… ha ha Maybe there are some good men out there after all, and here I was about to classify all politicians as Arachnoids. You do realize this may have screwed up THE WEST forever, what are we going to do? It’s going to feel really peculiar talking about the OLD WEST ;) What is China’s official response, I can’t wait? This is now chess on steroids, and if I was Medvedev and Obama, I raise the terrorist alert, just in case. Obama is a brave man, now you have to look after him, and I have a new found respect for Putin, both these leaders, it would have been so easy to do the wrong thing. If you confused, it’s because this is history that could rewrite history, fascinating times. I think this is the beginning of the right war, one that the ‘world’ must win… But then, its politics, who really knows?

Considering that the system doesn't work, and even with a homing beacon in the incoming missile and the missile's trajectory known, the success was minimal, it should be canceled. It was just welfare for the M.I.C. anyway. The Military Industrial Complex is like an obese person living in the midst of starving refugees. While up to 20% of Americans are either unemployed or under-employed, the rich gets BILLIONS from the taxpayers through bloated contracts where 90% of the money is siphoned off and put into the friends of the elites pockets. The money could be spent rebuilding our collapsing infrastructure.
