"Obama is not playing a transparent game"There is not much of a rift between old school and newbies in the White House, but President Obama takes shady decisions, says US radio host Thom Hartmann. |

The Vietnam war was the first and last TV war in the US. I don't mean to be offensive, but lest a holier than thou argument be raised, one will point out that the Russian censorship of the Second Chechen war has resulted not just in laws preventing critical coverage, but also in murders of journalists. The extent to which much of the extra-legal intimidation is the fault of the central and/or local government is unclear, but either way, likely as a consequence of the aforementioned problems a Levada poll of the Russian people in 2007 found that 49% of Russians thought that the coverage of the Chechen war did not give a clear idea of what was happening, 28% said it is not objective and "hides" problems that exist there, and only 11% said they were satisfied with the media coverage of the war.
