Yes, an example from the 4th century B.C. is much more relevant than the fact that in 2010 A.D. the militaries of U.S. allies such as England, Canada, Israel, etc. already allow their gay troops to serve openly without any problems.

Anything that makes you different is going to stand out and draw a lot of negative attention. Now people can use that as a complaint and get out of things by saying that they're gay or that people are attacking their rainbow. What difference does it matter? "Don't ask, don't tell" was logical and fair enough. Hide the fact that you grew up in an environment with limited resources or got twisted into the wrong gender by your personality. Everything is a disorder in the DSM manual, including not wanting to have sex, but that isn't. That's unfair.

The world is full of fabricators. Why did our politicians and military leadership lose their way? Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

There was a lovely cartoon somewhere that showed two obviously gay infantrymen in a foxhole with their heads and torsos sticking out. One is looking through a pair of binoculars off to one side exclaiming: "I can't shoot him: He's too gorgeous!" The caption was: "What is the military afraid of?"

So Arthur, does that mean that you think Women shouldn't be allowed in the military either? The idea that a gay soldier wouldn't shoot another man based on looks offends me greatly. Just because someone is gay doesn't mean that they find every person of the same gender attractive. Half the problem is that the military don't understand that a gay person isn't gonna try get in bed with every person of their gender. Homophobia frankly disgusts me, bigotry is bred from ignorance.

There is something very wrong with our use of language.

I mean; how can such behaviour be "gay"?

Just the idea of something so stinky, unsanitary and probably painful  being gay just makes no sense at all.
