All these diplomatic efforts are directed at restraining North Korea from further military action. That is all. South Korea is the richer state and consequently(and literally) has more to loose in any renewed military conflict. The USA is still occupying Iraq and war fighting in Afghanistan. It is possible that a new Korean war could begin and end before any American forces could redeploy. Which is just another way of saying that North Korea has the upper hand. What is new is that the actions of North Korea now work against the long run interests of the Chinese government. It is nuclear North Korea ,not China, that cements the (non nuclear) Japanese government to its military alliance with the USA. No matter how humiliating the operation of this alliance is for the Japanese government( see the dispute over American bases in Japan). Conversely North Korea's belligerence justifies all the American military activity in the region. It is an open question as to how long the Chinese government will be willing to pay the consequent political/military/economic cost of North Korea's military actions.

A complete fabrication a la Gulf of Tonkin. How could state-of-art warships of US and SK fail to detect NK's low-tech subs? Why was the damned "NK" torpedo shown already rusted? The whole exercise is carried out to make sure: - (1) the SK president, a totally shameless US puppet, gets re-elected in the next general election; and (2) Japan continues to allow same level of US occupation. What a LIE! Just like 9-11, an insider job.

Sometimes I'm amazed at some of RT's readers. Of course I'm sure Wahahaha has direct access to all of the facts that the international team of investigators had. Not to mention taking into account that picking a fight with NK for no reason would not benefit SK at all since NK has the ability to launch chemical weapons into downtown Seoul in a matter of minutes. Of course, the righteous one in this whole fight is the peace-loving and gentle, all-wise, all-knowing Kim Jong Il who wouldn't hurt a fly.

Long life to North Korea!

I am amazed as well at the low IQ assumption of events that are so obvious. Perhaps people like them should spend a few years inside North Korea like a common NK citizen and see how they feel (yes, not enough food, no entertainment, no internet or access to the outside world, just work and serve Kim Young Il). With troops still in Afghanistan and slow withdrawal from Iraq, the US is in no appetite to start a new hot war. (Indeed, this war on the Korean peninsula if restarted will be unlike Iraq or Afghanistan with unimaginable intensity in this modern age.) Coupled with a slow economy, nobody is crazy enough to light up this powder keg. The only crazy one here is North Korea, which the rest of the sane world is trying to contain.

To xuan mai. Shut up, servant of the master! The North Korea is in bad economic conditions because the capitalist USA and the capitalist South Korea apply a ferocious embargo against this country by many years. In the world the people dies for famine because exist persons like you!

The idea is this. North Korea has chosen to stay as a hermit country. If you know Communist Economics and the practice you understand. The basic idea is this. Preserver your interior through ideal complete communist style economics. Along with that I do not know how many times South Korea has traded with North Korea, tried to start manufacturing plants in North Korea and the North just goes and seizes them. By the way may we not forget it was the North who invaded a peaceful South Korea; it was not the other way around. Further, China and Russia both speak to Socialist style governments. That of which South Korea already is. The South's government provides numerous welfare programs run by the state. However, north Korea is a full blown Government owns everything style government. The Chinese and the Russians both disagree with this idea. North Korea is not doing badly because of the Embargo on it. Every time we go to take the embargo down the North starts talking trash and threatens to start a war like a scared country afraid of something. I would guess that the Submarine beached on the South Korea country, would be a set up and the North's troops running through South Korea killing people trying to get back to the North. Or the actually attempt by one of the Kim Jung's I believe which killed many South Korea government officials that was a set up too. It makes no sense to me. Why cannot the North just trade and be nice. If they did not do it, they should have humble apologized that it looks like they did it and tried to prove that it was not them. I mean that is what a civilized country would do. Not we will kill you if you do or say anything about this. That is not how a peaceful country reacts. I think if North Korea where to start a war that this time Russia and China would both blow them sky high. I mean the UN countries own China way to much debt to TWTEA
