"The Pentagon prohibits the hiring of private contractors as spies." As the CIA does not report to the Pentagon, this statement is a bit silly. The Pentagon doesn't have spies nor are they allowed to launch assaults into Pakistan. However, the CIA is an entirely different matter.

We have just learned that the operations of Mr Furlong's team were funded by Locheed Martin. This may have far-reaching consequences for all American citizens in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq, for we now know that Pentagon works through non-military companies like Lockheed. Since Pentagon may have also hired private contractors through other companies as well, that makes all employees not only from Lockheed Martin, but also from other US companies in the Middle East, a legitimate target of those who are fighting against US military operations in the region. Practically, every US citisen in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iraq, is a legitimate target now, including journalists, busynessmen, activists of various kinds. This is really a very good piece of information for all Taliban fighters and Al Qaeda members for now they know that any American may well be the one that is covertly hired to instruct drones where to attack.
