Of course they will keep the nukes, and so they should. Just like we need keep our startegic and tactical nuclear weapons, improving them more and more to gaurantee catastrophic unacceptable damage on any adversary. This is what keeps the peace. When leaders can fight wars, thousand of miles away, with your sons and daughters, to achieve finacial gains for themselves, they will do it, and do it every time. The only time they won't fight, is when that fight will come straght back home to the population who elects them. This is the true power of democracy enabled by nuclear weapons. The people vote not to feel the pain. The leader is enjoying office, so he avoids putting pain on them. It all works nicely. Give up nuclear weapons, and your sons and daughters will be slaughterd on a regular basis, for financial gain, controlled only by remoteness of suffering of the dying and wounded, from the voting public. So let's keep our nukes and be friends, they keep our leaders in check!

Ronald Reagan said "Trust but verify" in regards to Nuclear Missile Treaties that were signed by the U.S. and U.S.S.R.................oh how the U.S. was/is naive. During the 1990's and earlier in this decade the U.S. did in fact destroy silos and vehicles to which the warheads would sit. This was part of the START-1 treaty language. Russia chose to evade, delay, finagle(sp) and finally lie about what was destroyed etc. Both sides were allowed to keep the warheads in storage as again was stated in the treaty language. Russia HAS the largest amount of nuclear warheads in the world not the United States. The United States should NOT continue with the START treaties while Russia continues to UPGRADE their ICBMs. Russia cannot be trusted, then or now. The United States should rebuild our land based Missile Silos again to match those of Russia. A Nuclear Free World is a pipe dream. It will not happen for at least 100 years or until they are used. "Peace thru Superior Firepower". Unfortunately, the last administration and now the current one continues to "appease" Russia. Appeasement only makes the agressor more aggresive. The U.S. continues to weaken while the great Russian bear gets stronger and gets ready to stretch her mighty claws toward Georgia, Ukraine and Poland. The U.S. must see this and STOP them.

The US and NATO aggression, can only be held in check, by us maintaing and imporoving our nuclear capabilities on both a Strategic and tactical level. The US and NATO are habitual liars and torturers, they say one thing and do another. This was the case with NATO expansion in Europe, it was true of WMD, it was true of torture..... the list goes on. To maintain peace, we need to deploy an effective two stage nuclear doctrine. The first must be to create a nuclear buffer zone around Russia, to be able to elliminate numerically superior forces and to wipe out military assets and staging areas. This means striking inside border countries and beyond, when the US and NATO try to launch an air and ground offensive to secure our natural resources. This would also offer a resting point for negotiation and back off, before a final exchange to the US mainland and electorate would occur. If we build this strong enough, to guarantee catastrophic unacceptable damage on NATO and the US. Then we will prevent their resource based and political ideological aggression. Then we can all live in peace together, all of us, and our sons a daughters will be safe.

Never stop fighting until the fight is done. Meaning, if your opponent is down don't call an extended time out to let your opponent regroup, reorganize and rebuild. We unfortunately have did that after last major NATO expansion in 2004. Russia has regrouped, reorganized and most definately re-built(no matter what the so called experts say). The battle lines are now being drawn and the flashpoints are from Georgia to Ukraine. Russia has a history of imperialist dreams. They just took 20+ years to rebuild. Russia will do what is in their own interests and this includes rolling thru Georgia and Ukraine. You might as well consider Belarus part of the new "empire". NATO should place many troops and weapons including Tactical Nuclear Weapons in Poland, Hungary, the Baltic States and do whatever it takes to protect Georgia and Ukraine from falling into the hands of the govt of Vladimir Putin!!! As for the U.S., we should rapidly build NEW ICBM Silos here at home as well as SLBMs. The U.S. should also rapidly deploy a Missile Defense System around the United States, Canada and Western Europe. Russia should not be trusted.

Seems the cold war isn't over for everyone. I hope Russia is starting to see the pattern, or that it will recognize it soon. US tactics are simple. Create an unnecessary capability that is threatening to Russia. Missiles in Turkey, Cruise missiles in Europe, ABM sites in Europe, and then when Russia reacts then it is clear that the Russians are the bad guys and are being unreasonable. They can then negotiate what they didn't really need in the first place and get other concessions at the same time because of their good will in giving up whatever they gave up. The missiles in Turkey led to the Cuban missile crisis and appeared internationally to be a victory by Kennedy. Kennedy was seen as a wonderful president... perhaps if he had revealed to the US public that the bomber gap and the missile gaps were both illusions and that the US had a lead in both areas that the US might have saved trillions of dollars continuing with their weapons programs to get a first strike capability and the Soviets might have saved trillions catching up, which they did in the 1980s. Cruise missiles in Europe cost the Soviets a mature and effective system called SS-20 Sabre with the INF treaty. It even cost them the SS-23 which wasn't even in the IRBM definition of the weapons banned by the INF treaty but they banned it anyway. And the ABM system in Europe to protect the US from Iranian missiles that can't even reach Europe let alone the US. The ABM system was based on missiles that destroy targets outside the atmosphere at the height of their trajectory. They would be completely ineffective against missiles targeting any part of Europe. It seems what they want for that concession is to drag Russia into Afghanistan....

We all need to consider the fact that the United Stated and the Russian Federation each have enough nuclear weapons and delivery missiles to destroy the world many times over. We don't need treaties for either side to start getting rid or excess nuclear weapons. The capability to destroy the world just one time should be quite enough on each side. Then, after both countries unilaterally get rid of excess nukes, and only then, they may want to talk about further reductions. Deception will not serve the interest of either country. Russia has so much territory today that it is not in their best interest to attempt to extend their borders. Russia is already extremely rich in natural resources. What Russia needs is good quality of life for their citizens, increased population to settle the vast lands within their borders and exploring/mining the county's vast resources. Honesty is in the best interest of the USA and Russia. It is essential that Russia and America get along, our people are a lot alike.

I find it interesting that the US is keeping all its nukes in storage rather than dismantling them. Soviet and Russian nuclear weapons are reprocessed into fuel for civilian power stations in the US but US warheads are stored. It seems that the Russians should adopt the same policy as the US and store their warheads too so that they will have a reserve of processed Uranium they can use in their own power stations as cheap fuel and US consumers can pay more for their electricity instead of getting it cheap from Russia. (It is cheaper to process weapons grade Uranium into fuel rods than to process raw Uranium into fuel rods.)
