I served as an ensign on the USS Caron, the first ship to reach Grenada on the evening of the 23rd of October. The shooting started on the 25th. The Caron detained an American ex-patriate from the Grenadines who smuggled a reporter from the Washington Post onto Grenada. The Caron found $10,000 in cash on the ex-pat's sailboat. We let him go with his money.

Even now it seems to be overlooked that Grenada was a British possession and prior approval was not sought for the invasion!

This so called war was a blatant example of US military power used for nothing but coercion and intimidation, not of poor little Grenada but of the whole Caribbean and Latin American region. These types of examples are the reason that the US is now reaping what it has sown in the past, why its friends are those that it buys with dollars and why its decline is being lauded world over.
