When, as in the case with Risen and Jeffrey Sterling, a reporter is forced to testify against his source, even where the abuse by the government/CIA - to use an Iranian to undermine an Iranian scientific project - is way more criminal than disclosing the abuse, there can be no more trust for people to come forward with such information - then all trust in the media is misplaced. The media can no longer fulfill its function to guard/inform the public of abuse by government. That is the ultimate suffocation of free press.

Ipsofacto obvious that focus must be on wrong doers instead of whistle blowers. If the whistle blowers will have face lengthy court proceedings in order to get wrong doers punished then how he will come forward with open heart for public work? Whether this is award or penalty to expose wrong doer.

If the US govt is going to hold sources accountable for leaking what they consider classified information, then will they hold the sources who are told to leak misleading propaganda accountable, too?

Obama knows NeoCons and "Dual Citizens" are planting false stories in major media to influence Congress and public opinion. This is criminal behavior. Show your sources when accused of lying in corporate media. Corporations have responsibilities and feduciary responsibility. Lies are lies. Fess up!

The reporter did not witness nor participate in the commission of a crime. His evidence is hearsay.
