Ther are people out there right now who are working on ways to drop the drones ,at the end of the day they work on signals transmitted to them from a base source
scramble the signals and the drone is useless .
Look around you at the sheer amount of signal transmission dishes on top of masts and buildings .
How far do think a 1500 watt signal go from an adapted microwave oven unit via an adapted satellite dish ? stand on the dock when a ship is coming in with the radar going and can wipe your phone this is a fact!

Countermeasures will make no difference to the ordinary guy on the street, but corporate interests will be protected by them, ensuring that legal deniability continues for the rich unaccountables.

Like outlawed radar detectors, it'll be jail time to jam a drone. Big Brother will not be denied.

in Texas, drones will be bird-shot fodder. Likely a few other states, too.

Let the Eagles fly, let the Drones die. If the drones are such a good idea, let them loose on the lobbyist and congress or maybe the White House so they can get a feel for the threat of death over their head. We are not he onlY country with drones, I can see it now Star Wars over New York, Miami, L.A Philadelphia, Boston, The White House, Pentagon, Air Bases, Power Plants, Communications and the list goes on, you may even be able to watch them from your front porch, while scaring you to death.

Land of surveillance and the home of evil

Anonymous user 03.04.2013 18:29

This shows most usa's 'tech advantages'; GPS, stealth & IR are actually OLD easily-countered tech!

Anonymous user 03.04.2013 18:28

If drone is self-directing, jamming comms doesn't work + GPS isn't only nav system available, usa!

Anonymous user 03.04.2013 18:25

These ONLY work if drone is being flown via comms rather than following a pre-programmed mission.

any one ever think of gps scrambler w/battery tied to helium balloons? or 50, 100 balloons?

What stops a hacker from taking control of a drone or fleet of them then, crashing them into nuclear plants, commercial planes, government buildings, or schools? Nothing can stop it.

The electronic systems are very venerable to hacking. There isn't a computer control system that cannot be hacked. We just don't hear about the constant attacks on information systems.

So , if drones are armed (and you KNOW they will be,) a hacker or foriegn power could tap into their control systems and create havoc around the country! Damaging a nuclear power cooling system would be disasterous.

This looks like an effective new way for someone to conduct counter surveillance and protect their right to privacy. There are a few other methods that one can apply in order to ensure their privacy, and these include: a wiretap or bug detector, a white noise generator, and your own surveillance camera system. I think a citizen's right to privacy is one that should not be taken away for any reason.
