Pentagon doctors claim military suicides not related to combat

07.08.2013 18:27

Deployments to war zones and combat exposure have no effect on military suicides and fail to explain the increase in self-inflicted deaths that occurred from 2001 to 2008, according to a new medical study which contradicts previous research.

IMO that's the trouble Nate; most of the country hasn't got the spine to get dirty hands. Those of us who get dirty are the bad reminders that to live the life style we in the US do, Everyone has blood on them.
civilians would rather think its some presidents fault that we have a war over oil instead of thinking it through and acknowledging there wants are what drive the war.
the great american blame game.

This is a disgrace to anyone who has laid their lives on the line in the last 12 years for the right to blast us vets and say we are "butchers" and "murders". Maybe you need to look in the mirror and reevaluate your morals and beliefs for electing those 543 members of our government that got us here to begin with. Go on and rant on your soap box about how its my fellow brothers and sisters fault that we lose so many of us to suicide. You, the American people, have just as much blood on your hands as I do. I for one never fought for your freedom. I fought to bring home a son, a daughter, a dad, and a mother.

When you give it all for your goverment who cares so little as to put out this type of stuff. To me it is as bad as the Wounded Warrior Project , (WWP) Wake up Americans !!!!

Can we have some one NOT related to the military nor any military to look into this? I mean I spent 18 months in IRAQ and I would give a lot for a pentagon pysch doc to do the same and then put their opinion in

Only the Pentagon could come up with nonsense like this. In the 1st world war some brave soldiers were shell shocked and because this was not recognized at the time they were shot for cowardice.

My suspicion is that many of the suicides and traumatic stress disorders experieinced by American soldier and marines is due to their revulsion at the brutality and injustice of the American occupation of Iraq, and Afghanistan. They arrive as young and naive.......and then recognize themselves as the war criminals they have become.

Instead of acknowledging that there are legitamate reasons for the soldiers being depressed by these wars, the Pentagon doctors blame the soldiers and say they are mentally ill. Washington avoids placing the blame on themselves.

My suspicion is that many of the suicides and traumatic stress disorders experieinced by American soldier and marines is due to their revulsion at the brutality and injustice of the American occupation of Iraq, and Afghanistan. They arrive as young and naive "Christian soldiers" nourrished on Fox News propaganda and then recognize themselves as the war criminals they have become.

War means Death end of!!! Doctors are meant to heal the sick NOT the wounded from wars!! There is no place for war anymore and all those who do battle without understanding the full implications of that battle are sheep lining up for their own slaughter... END ALL WARS.. LIVE IN PIECE.....the math isn't hard...End the FED!!! End voting for IDIOCRACY!!!

Any way you slice it, today's soldiers are being treated miserably. They put their very lives on the line, and then when they return, they're on the watch list for potential terrorists. It's shameful.

How about I slice it in this way: they kill strangers, bossy half the world and their own nation. What do they want also, our pity? Come on. You reap what you sow!

Tom Greg 08.08.2013 06:25

Yeah, um, I believe the Pentagon doctors...

Henriette Mehrhoff 08.08.2013 06:21

I think, after they come home from deployments, their treatment at home is worse than anybody would endure at a civilian job. The leaders are no leaders anymore, but cause fear and distrust within their units. The leadership training and selection of future leaders need to change, for a lot it's just a power trip "leading" others.

Henriette Mehrhoff 08.08.2013 06:21

My husband is in the process of being med boarded and will medically retire in September after 11 years of service out of this very reason. He's had a mental breakdown at work. But it was sparked by his superiors who threatened him during counseling. Even though he was deployed for 3 full tours - 38 months all together - and has quite a few more physical health problems, the main reason for the MEB were his mental issues .

Christine Carrier 08.08.2013 01:44

No doubt that PTSD is avoided, as it affects the therapy the soldiers receive, and any disability claims, Any way you slice it, today's soldiers are being treated miserably. They put their very lives on the line, and then when they return, they're on the watch list for potential terrorists. It's shameful.

Victor Rosez 08.08.2013 01:20

It is because they feel 24hrs on 24 the "watching eyes" of the CIA/NSA/MIS on their back... permanently!!! They turn of crazy after a while!!!

Tom Reitano 08.08.2013 00:36

And WHY would I take the word of ' military doctors' ?
Since when is ' Kill or be Killed not a producer of stress? Or self answering questions like, 'why am I fighting here anyway'.
