Rand Paul wants ‘light’ prison term for Snowden

06.01.2014 17:22

United States Senator Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) says he plans to sue the US government over the spy programs exposed by Edward Snowden, but in the meantime he isn’t willing just yet to endorse the idea of giving clemency to the former contractor.

Why should whistle blowers, or anyone else, be punished for telling the truth? Is this not a reflection of the madness our world is in when right is wrong and wrong is right? People like George Bush Jr and Tony Blair, literally get away with mass murder, but those who tell the truth are punished with imprisonment.

I'd like to see a light prison sentence for some bankers. Not one banker has yet gone to jail for the LEYMAN / AIG / FNM / FMAC / WAMU / BOFA / CITI / JPM ... crimes.

Everyone needs to take a look at the NSA! Please let me know if electronic surveillance is corrupt? Are these leaders fit for this position and where are the checks and balances????? The American people need to educate themselves on this subject and speak out!

It would so great to see Snowden in prison... one night is all the big boys would need to make girlie-boy Edward into the true woman he is...

Your heart is of the Earthly things. You lay with the systems that go against everything that is "right". In your eyes, the laws of men are higher than truth. In your heart, you feel all men should obey the laws no matter how corrupted they get and to never fight back at all.

You are the problem with the world. Not Snowden.

Prison time??? I was thinking more a national holiday.

Mr. Paul, the majority of US citizens (not residents) are on Snowden's side; without him taking the chance, we'd never know. I'm an Indy (yep, Progressives, the largest voter group, outnumber the Dems, the ones that gave Obama the Presidency in 2008 and abandoned him in 2012) and you just lost my vote. If you want to win, try listening to Sanders/King...that' s what type of person we want.

So when Rand Paul or any other American politician use the twinky quotation finger thing, in England, do they remember to just use one finger instead of two?
Hahahahahah a! I'm [thr] illing you, I know!

I should sound out the J in your name as the soft G. I should mangle the FuhJORD just to be dumb and annoying.

I think Rand Paul is staying politically teflon here. Did you see the way the status of arbitrary political imprisonment just slid off his conservative non-stick flack jacket technology? If the US can get to Snowden they'll hang him at high noon. No freezing metal toilets for that guy. He should stay where the party is anyway.. ENJOY SOCHI 2014, ED! It's gonna be hot in Russia! Vodka & freedom, WOOOO!

T reason and Gross Willfull Incompetence = Malfeasance in Office

charlie moanans 07.01.2014 03:37

don't come back. the CIA and FBI has major clout w/all prison wardens and in addition to goon squads in the prisons to take care of business. They just want you back to set an example for anyone who stands up to their authority.

Snowden is a HERO, put all the politicians on trial and lock em up and throw away the key.

Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the Earth. Abraham Lincoln.

So if the governments are indeed elected by the people for the people shouldn't any punishment (or any commendation) be decided by those people.
Shouldn' t all government descisions be that of the will of the majority of people?

Wha t is democracy for if not to deliver the consensus opinion of the people?

Exactly, but that's not how it actually works.
We vote in some party we know nothing about, and then they go off and do their own bidding. It makes no sense

The police kill people in the line of duty, are they [all] murderers? No, they are doing their duty.

When the police infiltrate drug cartels, they take drugs don't they, what prison term should they serve?

Snow den was doing his duty too, his duty to humanity.

Snowden broke the "laws" of the government he exposed. What justice do you think he'll really get if he were to ever return.

That man deserves the highest commendation possible It's not a medal or a badge, it's the respect of the masses he unselfishly sacrificed himself to protect.

In the case of his leaks on domestic intelligence gathering, you might be correct.

In the case of foreign intelligence, there's no US law broken and no civil liberty right infringed. The leaks on foreign intelligence are illegal and wrong for a sworn agent of US intelligence.

In law, you cannot dismiss what is done wrong because you did something right. If you cured cancer tomorrow and then committed murder - you're still a murderer.

Yes, but if you killed someone like Hitler, you are a murderer but for a greater good...
