If there is no meat on the colony, what choice is there but vegetarianism? Shipping a cow and several embryos doesn't seem feasible and since livestock deliver a poor ROI for the resources they consume, it would make no sense to attempt to raise them. However, I'm not going anywhere without my cat, and what's he supposed to eat?

Radiation is the main problem both in travel to Mars and living there. Underground cities perhaps?

I am more then willing to go. Dream of mine is to live on mars, at least the people there would care enough about the people around them to lend a helping hand

Elon Musk has tweeted that he COULD NOT require vegetarians only in the colony.

Anonymous user 01.04.2013 03:06

Nowhere in this article is there a figure other than 80,000 colonists.

Virtually all dietary needs can be supplied by vegetables/fruit, including protein and fat.

there's a mistake in the article:
"W hile 800,000 residents may seem like a large number..." - should say "80,000"
