Texas blast: Ammonium nitrate’s fertile history of devastation

18.04.2013 07:31

Is it a coincidence that this story was posted exactly 8 minutes after Amy referred to 'anhydrous ammonia' as the catastrophic explosive agent in West and in Texas City?

Amy Goodman also blew it on Democracy Now, which tapes perhaps too early in the morning.

Important story, extremely poor reporting. Anhydrous Ammonia did not cause this. It was Ammonium Nitrate. I minored in journalism, and in the 70's it was tantamount to check facts, and source. You either didn't bother to check them, or did a very poor job of checking them. I'd suggest taking a couple of hours of reporting before your next story. Sorry to hear about all those impacted by this horrific accident.

April is a very popular month for explosions according to this article.

Alex Povolotski 18.04.2013 16:53

Yep, lets ban ammonium over that one explosion and the world goes hungry in a matter of months.

This dreadful accident clearly shows the legacy of death and destruction permeating industrial agriculture. Why would any sane species want such toxic and dangerous materials? Grow organic is the solution for health of the planet and all on it. The legacy of chemical based agriculture speaks for itself: Death, destruction and a poisoned planet.

How about a Nitrate Act?
Everybody using nitrates is a terrorist!

It is sad but...
Body count? Explosions? Hollywood? Infotainment?!!!
