Southern US struggles through 'catastrophic' winter storm

12.02.2014 00:28

Thousands of Americans across the country found their plans complicated as wind, snow, and icy rain whipped through the southern states and then made its way north in a blizzard that meteorologists predicted could affect some 100 million people.

It's shocking and terrible that you guys are so poorly prepared! I mean you guys weren't at all when it comes to snow and Ice.. I live in the middle of Sweden but it only starts to get crazy once it reaches 60-70 inch.

You are comparing near arctic lands with near tropical. Of course the American Deep South won't be as prepared as Sweden for snow and ice. By the way, why do all Swedish men look like homosexuals? Just an observation I've made about 'you guys'.

Our governor did declare a state of emergency this morning and told people to stay home and don't be out on the roads. People went to work today as if this huge storm they've been blasting on the news for days wasn't headed our way. We just had a storm two weeks ago and very surprised how many ignored the warnings. They know how bad the roads get with just a little snow. I guess people put on their stupid hats as the governor asked them not to do.

Hahaha! Are you kidding me? I live in Michigan and we have four feet of snow on the ground! Hahahaha!!! Truly catastrophic!!! Hahahaha!!!!

I've been through just a little ice storm and do not care to repeat it. What Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana are getting is much worse. Condolences to all you who live down there - hope you can keep warm and safe! The buildings are not built for a snow load - look what happened to that church. Gonna be more buildings that collapse and more roads closed. They just do not have the snow removal equipment and budget to deal with this like the northern states do. Take care, all of you.

Cant blame the south for not knowing how to deal with snow, Its The South for a geographical reasons. Do agree that Chemtrails and subsequently the HAARP have some relevance in this plight, these things were designed to manipulate weather patterns(research it). Americans should be a bit more sympathetic to other Americans in need or despair rather then just laughing at them... Alaska feels for you here, hang tough, keep warm and it will all melt away!!!

Hmmm, out west that's not a snow storm, that's just a little dusting. We keep the schools and roads open with a lot more snow than that.

Ignorant bible bashing neo confederate red necks just dont understand manmade global warming!. This will teach those climate deniers what runaway catastrophic AGW looks like!.

Re ally? Look, most people down here accept the idea of climate change, don't "bible bash", and aren't confederates. Try not to be so ignorant and self-righteous.

Good thing a majority of the climate change deniers live in the South.

Unfortunately, they've always got an out. They can say it's all due to chemtrails, HAARP, or even a wobbling pole!

We realize in the southern united states that minor ice and snow storms that paralyze us seem trivial to those of you in the northern portion of the continent. Keep in mind that since these use to be rare occurrences, most states and municipalities are not equipped to deal with such winter storms. No road salt is stockpiled or snow removal equipment is available in sufficient numbers. Government budgets do not cover tens of millions for equipment that may only be used a few times per decade. Of course we chuckle at all of you who have "Heat Advisories" and are told to stay inside if the temperature exceeds 100 degrees
