RT HOLDS VR SHORT FILM CO-PRODUCTION CREATIVE WORKSHOP FOR ASIAN BROADCASTING UNION (ABU) MEMBERS
MOSCOW, AUGUST 24, 2018— RT, among the leaders in 360-degree video broadcasting, and the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) held a workshop for Virtual Reality short film co-production for teams from CGTN (China), RRI (Indonesia), Bang Productions (Singapore) and other leading Asian media organizations.
“We are very grateful to RT for so graciously hosting the 360 VR creative workshop in Moscow. This workshop was extremely useful and inspiring for content creators from our member organizations. We hope to continue our partnership with RT to expand our capacity development program in 360 VR and other emerging technologies,” said Hamdhoon Rashad, project manager at ABU.
At the workshop, the RT360 team discussed their projects and shared their experience in producing panoramic video content with colleagues from nine Asian countries. Later, the participants tried their hand at making their own VR videos.
“During this three-day co-production workshop, I’ve learned a lot about 360 co-production and how RT did in this area. The 360 team did a pretty good job, they showed us what cameras they used and gave us advice for our own projects,” said Wen Yaru from CGTN.
“This session with RT360 and ABU is so significant in terms of our members’ enthusiasm to work with Russia and to learn the latest technology. It has been exciting to see how RT embraces digital culture and how they have become leaders in growing a sustainable audience for 360 VR on a global level,” said Keiko Bang, founder of the Singaporean production company Bang Productions.
In November 2016, RT brought the world the first-ever panoramic video of Earth from space, showing footage shot with a 360-degree camera aboard the International Space Station. In October 2017, RT premiered SPACEWALK 360, the first ever panoramic video shot in open space, also part of its Space 360 project. Currently, RT’s library features more than 220 panoramic videos, available on Facebook and YouTube, as well as in the RT360 mobile app (Google Play, App Store, and Oculus Store).
The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) is a professional non-profit association of broadcasting organizations. It currently has over 270 members from 69 countries in Asia and other regions, reaching a potential audience of 3.5 billion people.
