MOSCOW, JULY 31, 2024 – RT is now accepting entries for the 2024 Khaled Alkhateb International Memorial Awards, an annual competition that recognizes the best journalism from conflict zones. The awards were established in honor of RT Arabic freelancer, Khaled Alkhateb, who was killed on July 30, 2017 while reporting from the frontlines in Syria.

“In 2017, we paid a high price for covering the Syrian conflict. Our correspondent Khaled Alkhateb died at the hands of ISIS terrorists. To honor his memory and his heroic contribution to journalism, RT established annual awards for the best war correspondents from all over the world. We wish good luck to all participants and look forward to seeing you in Moscow!” commented Maya Manna, Head of RT Arabic.

Khaled Alkhateb International Memorial Awards are awarded for the best news video reports from active conflict zones; materials submitted should be under 10 minutes in length. The winners will receive a cash prize and an opportunity to visit Moscow and take part in an experience-exchange program run by RT.

In 2024, RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan will preside over the jury.

To apply, submit your entries at https://award.rt.com. The entries will be accepted between July 30, 2024 and October 1, 2024.

The Khaled Alkhateb International Memorial Awards were established by RT in memory of 25-year-old RT Arabic stringer Khaled Alkhateb who was killed by ISIS shelling in Homs, Syria, in 2017. Khaled had been covering the fighting between Syrian government forces and terrorists.
