Bitcoin rockets above $20,000 for first time EVER
The world’s most popular cryptocurrency, bitcoin, hit a new milestone on Wednesday, smashing through the $20,000 level on increased demand from institutional investors.
The digital currency was trading more than six percent higher, at $20,627 as of 14:15 GMT. It had been holding steady just below the $20,000 mark for most of the last three weeks.
Bitcoin has gained more than 180 percent this year. Analysts attribute the surge to increased demand from larger investors (such as Paul Tudor Jones and Stanley Druckenmiller), who were attracted to its potential for quick gains, inflation-resistant qualities, and expectations that it will become a mainstream payment method.
